Rare Presto2 Posted November 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2016 Before we discovered cruising (and since) we spent many wonderful holidays in Paphos, Cyprus. It is a fabulous island with so many potential 'excursions' and history. I've always wondered by it never seems to be on any of the cruise itineraries - or if it is ever likely to be - and thought someone may have an answer. :)
silver service Posted November 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2016 Maybe six years ago, we did an eastern med cruise, on aurora. It did cyprus (limasol). Port said (egypt) tunis (tunisia). After this cruise There has been lots of trouble, understatement. We were very lucky To have had this cruise. The danger ports are no longer visited. Hence, no cyprus, sadly. WeeCountyMan Posted November 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2016 I might be wrong - bit is Nicosia not the only capital city in the world which is still divided politically, as a result of the Turkish invasion in the 1970s ?

Yes I think so - never been though. It is sad that Cyprus is only seen as a route to Egypt and Israel as it is so close to Crete and Rhodes and, to us anyway, would make a perfect destination for a cruise as a port in its own right. besberry Posted November 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2016 We stopped off in Cyprus (Limassoll) in 2013. Was on a world cruise though. I'd love to find another cruise that calls in there.
yorkshirephil Posted November 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 6, 2016 We too have had some wonderful holidays in Cyrus, we did several cruise and stays with Suncruises in the nineties who used to have a ship based in Limassol most years. I think Thompson cruises still visit Limassol.
Rare Presto2 Posted November 6, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted November 6, 2016 I just think it is a missed opportunity ----- loads of people would love a cruise and stay there! Such a perfect place to dock and people could quite easily do their own thing and loads of excursions on offer. AND the excursions aren't hours and hours away from the port. And no, I don't work for the Cypriot Tourist Board -- haha

What makes you think (Limassol ) Cyprus is a danger port? We have an apartment there and have never heard of any danger. I can understand cruise lines being wary about Tunisia and Egypt

mickey89 Posted November 7, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) The island is no longer divided. We were there in May of this year and the Island is still divided, Border Post and all. Shame though that the Island is overrun by Russians with little manners or style. Edited November 7, 2016 by mickey89
EJMcruiser Posted November 7, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 7, 2016 You can always book yourself on the QM2 2018 world cruise. Although I suppose there are easier ways of getting to Cyprus haha
