CruiserBruce Posted November 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2016 If you look down the board, you will see dozens of threads on renting cars, with all the logistics on shuttles, where required. You will lo see a recommended website...something like "discounthawiicarrentals dot com". Search is your friend. Of course it depends upon what your definition of "best" is. Rare astridwilson Posted November 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2016 Try autoslash.com. Autoslash uses the major rental car companies, no credit card required and after you make a reservation, they continue to check for lower prices. If you sign up for the programs, like Thrifty blue chip program, you can pick up your car very quickly.
punkincc Posted November 14, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2016 What's the best way to rent a car at the various ports in Hawaii? The answer may depend on the ports your cruise is visiting. For instance, in Maui, Lahaina may differ from Kahului. In Kona, there is a rental car desk at the King Kamehameha Hotel a few minutes walk from the tender pier. No need to shuttle to the Kona airport location. A little more expensive, but you may find the convenience and proximity to the pier worth it. Reserve here well in advance. In general, the shuttles run from the airport locations and the pier. This is true in Kahului, Nawiliwili, and Hilo. All you need to ride is a reservation made in advance. They don't want you riding there for the purpose of making a reservation. You'll have to read the board for info on Lahaina if you port there, as well as Honolulu. Discount Hawaii Car Rentals is a good site. No money in advance. Pay at the counter. Can cancel anytime. Lots of info about it on this board. Join the loyalty club of the companies you book with. You don't have to have used then before. You can then get in the fast track lines instead of lining up behind the general crowd at the counters.
