Celebrity Summit Southern Caribbean Oct 2017

I won a travel voucher at work and was thinking of using it on a cruise for next fall. I was considering this cruise as the price seems really good and it's an itinerary I would love to do. We would get a balcony. However I don't know anything about this ship or Celebrity in general (I have only been on 2 cruises and have another planned for next year on Princess). Does it have an adult area or pool? If so, is there a charge? Has anyone done this itinerary from San Juan in the fall? The dates are October 28-Nov. 1. I have some concerns about cruising the Caribbean in the fall and would love to hear from others that have done it as well as what you like about Celebrity. TIA.

We have not done that particular cruise yet. We are booked for Dec 17th on the summit southern Caribbean. We have done the re-positioning cruise from San Juan on the summit.

The Summit has an adult pool area called the Thelassotherapy pool. It is wonderful. We used it every night here are some pics: http://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/celebrity-summit-251/thalassotherapy-pool-159582/

We prefer the Summit to other ships because it is smaller and is less noisy.

We are a middle aged couple with all grown children and are not really party people so we love the middle of the road style of the Summit. You can still find plenty to do but it's not a wild and crazy ship like one other we were on (the comedy was raunchy as were the shows on the other ship -we were appalled that some parents had to cover their children's eyes during the 'family entertainment'. This does not happen on the Summit (at least not that we have seen).

They have just added a new adults only rooftop terrace which we are very excited to use. Not that we don't like kids (we have 5 and 8 grandchildren) but we like the quiet areas to relax and read or sunbathe. There is no charge for this area or the adult pool area and we often make use of the sauna/change room in this area (also free).

They offer dance lessons during the day (which we always take advantage of) and usually the shows in the evening are quite good.

As for the ports, all of our cruises are either in February or May (I am a teacher/grad student and my husband is a professor so we have limited availability for travel) but we have read on other posts (ports of call section of cruise critic) that the ports are quiet pleasant during the fall.

You might want to check out the posts in that area so as to better understand the positives and negatives associated with each port during Oct/Nov. Many will just be returning now and will be posting updated info.

The food on the Summit is the best we've had on any cruise (with the exception of Guys Burgers on the Carnival which is amazing).

I never have a problem finding a lounger in a quiet spot (I don't tend to sit by the pool because it's crowded and people hog the loungers early in the day and never move their stuff (saving it all day long when they aren't even there). I can always find a place to soak up the sun or lounge in the shade and read.

There is an observation lounge that is quite abandoned during the day. It has huge floor to ceiling windows and an incredible view. My favourite spot overall. I grab a coffee and enjoy the luxurious leather chairs and read and watch the scenery.

I hope you enjoy your cruise. We will post more once we return from our cruise in Dec. I'm looking forward to sailing the Summit once again.

Oh thank you for the information and the pictures--I never thought to go there, they are so much better than the actual Celebrity website! The ship does look very nice and reminds me a little of the Royal Caribbean ship we went on which we liked very much.

I am just a little worried about cruising at that time of year and it's really the only thing holding me back.

It was a great time of the year to cruise, we found the ship vibe less frantic, the weather was great and flights were cheaper. Just be aware the itinerary could change because if weather. I would absolutely Cruise in October again, the prices are so much better.

What about rain though? I have been trying to read the current TRs and most mention rain at least once or twice. I guess it's not the end of the world with that many ports though if we get a shower or two.

I'd also love to do the NCL POA to Hawaii but it's very expensive. Decisions, decisions.

We just got back on the 12th, and have done this cruise three times in the last four years. Cruise ship vibe is mellow with a mostly older crowd, but the cruise is what you make it. We always spend time at the Sunset bar listening to acoustic music in the evenings and look for the free drawings in the casino (wife won $300 casino credit this cruise). MDR food is always good in our opinion, but the Ocean View Buffet has limited options. Rained only a couple of times on and off at a couple of ports, but otherwise the weather was great. We had the calmest water on this cruise that we have ever experienced. With the usual free perks and low cruise fare, we can't afford not to cruise on the Summit in the fall. Go for it.

We just got back from the Summit's first fall sailing in the Caribbean. Weather was HOT and very humid and we did encounter some rain.

We expected more rain than we actually had. It wasn't too bad and didn't really didn't affect our plans for the ports. It was a wonderful itinerary and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

If you can, get a Cat. C1 cabin on the very aft of the ship (especially Deck 7). The balconies are the deepest and are fantastic!
