Minnie29 Posted November 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2016 We are booked on the Eclipse Sept 3rd 2017 for the 14night western Med cruise... our first cruise with Celebrity. Any comments on ship excursions would be welcome. We have booked an excursion for the ports of Nice and Rome but are not sure about Florence, Genoa, Malaga and Lisbon. Would be really grateful for any advice

Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted December 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2016 Florence is easily walkable on your own, so we did a "Florence and Pisa On Your Own" excursion. An escort was on the bus to provide maps, answer questions, and guide us to the meeting places. Then we were given time to explore on our own. The Leaning Tower was even cooler than I imagined. If you're into Art, you might consider an excursion to the Academia Museum (Uffizi). It's so popular, you really need to go with a group that pre-purchased tickets. I haven't been to the other ports. We have booked an excursion for the ports of Nice and Rome but are not sure about Florence, Genoa, Malaga and Lisbon. Would be really grateful for any advice We have done this itinerary several times and really like it. Lisbon has a HOHO bus which stops right by where the ship docks and that is good for a tour of the city, familiarising yourselves etc as does Malaga. I have done the ship's city tram excursion which I enjoyed. Genoa city is a short taxi drive from the port and is interesting to explore. The Celebrity excursion via coach and boat to Portofino was very enjoyable - the coach drive was especially pretty and the approach to Portofino by the ferry boat was good too. I agree re the Florence on your own excursion. The tour will provide you with a map. Early advanced booking for the main museums/sights is advised to avoid queuing. One of my favourite ports is Villefrance in the south of France. It is a delightful place to spend a day with a visit to the beach and swim in the Med, then a lovely French lunch at one of the many port side restaurants - however you say you have booked an excursion for that day. You should join your roll call as you will find it interesting and might gain some ideas of what can be done at the ports. Also you can research the boards re the ports.
