Self Disembarkation On Breakaway

We will be sailing on the Breakaway from NY to Bermuda. Our flight home from Newark, is quite tight for time so a quick disembarkation would be preferred. Is this possible on the Breakaway and how would I organize it ?. thanks

I cruised on the Breakaway last year in Nov and left the ship with my own bags as soon as they allowed us to leave about an hour after arriving but I got in line as soon as possible after I had breakfast and heard what debarkation times would be as the lines can be long, but once they got going I was off within 30 minutes!

Disembarkation with your bags as early as possible is the way to go.

My DH and I had a difficult disembarkation process at the end of a Breakaway cruise to Bermuda this past late September.

The passenger line to disembark snaked around the ship, through the casino and O'Sheehans.

When we finally reached the pier,we found ourselves on a very long line to the terminal.

After almost an hour on that line,we searched for our luggage inside the terminal.

One of two pieces was missing. After another hour of dealing with port personnel to try to find the missing piece,we were informed that another passenger had taken the luggage by mistake and had returned it to the terminal !

IMHO both NCL and the Port of NY need to improve the disembarkation process for the passengers.

So,take your own luggage and leave early !

Our flight from Newark is 12 Noon. We will be handling our own luggage and will have breakfast at opening time then line up at the appropriate location.Does anyone know the best Deck level or which end of the ship is best ? Would I have to make any arrangements to do Self Disembarkation ?.....or do we just "show up" in line ?

No arrangements are needed. Just grab your luggage and be in line so you can get off quick. You are better off going to Deck 7 AFT (back) which moves quicker. As others have said the hold up is usually with Customs. This past June it took forever to get through customs. Best bet is to grab a porter when you get off the ship to get you through Customs quicker than the people waiting on line.

I had a friend who went on Breakaway and disembark was a breeze, his next trip which was with me was a nightmare. My last trip on Breakaway was with my mom and we were in Haven...much easier and quicker and my mom was in a wheelchair so there was special handling ....what ended up hanging us up was misplaced luggage. Now that said.....you are arriving on a Sunday, even though my issues were not actually getting thru customs (definitely grab a porter well worth the tip!). When in a non haven cabin the lines were horrible. ALSO.....getting in and out of NYC can be an issue! During one of my trips comican (sp?) was there and the traffic around the city was HORRIBLE! You never know what is going on in the city..marathons, protests...etc......you dont know what is going to tie up traffic. Plan for the worst.

I don't think you will have a problem getting your flight if you self- disembark, get a porter at terminal to assist you, and take a taxi or private transfer, not a shuttle who will still wait for it to be full.
