A different gratuities question

We have never encountered that sort of hinting on any Princess cruise. We, too, always leave the auto-grats as-is and we also tip in cash anyone who we feel went above-and-beyond. Now that we do Anytime Dining we seldom see the same waiter twice, but in all cases our room stewards have been very helpful and professional. In fact, we always give him or her $20 on embarkation day and then tip again at the end of the cruise.

Regarding those Consummate Host cards, we have filled those out a few times. Once we had a room steward who was SO good, so attentive, and always particularly pleasant and cheerful we wrote him up and we gave him the card so he'd know how much we thought of him. He was so grateful he covered our pillows in chocolates that night! He couldn't say 'Thank you' enough times.

Stewards and waiters make so very little and they work so very hard to keep us happy, we just feel it's only right to tip them accordingly. We also try to treat each one with tremendous respect and always ask about their families. It seems to make them very happy and it takes so little effort on our part. We aren't rich by any means but we certainly have a lot more than they do...after all, we can afford to take cruises. :)

Aside from the card that we also fill-up, we also learned that they appreciate being mentioned on the post-cruise survey email sent us by the corporate office. They say it is the basis for promotion. So by asking their full name and position title, they interpret it as already being included in the survey.

That's good to know; thanks!
