suebee53 Posted December 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2016 DIL's passport expires 04 June 2017. We sail 01 January. That means her passport expires just less than 6 months after we return to Galveston on 08 January 2017. Will this really be a problem? She's having trouble finding her birth certificate. One would think that it's the actual expiration date that matters, not the 6-month buffer, but you can't assume anything these days. TIA!
sptrout Posted December 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2016 I am not positive, but it may be a problem. However, one point you made about not being able to find her birth certificate is not important. You do not need to resubmit a BC to renew a passport. Just new pictures and fill out the form available on the website (I do not have a link handy, but do a search).
fdthird Posted December 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2016 I think he's concerned about not finding her birth certificate if they have to use that rather than the passport.
sanger727 Posted December 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2016 If your cruise is one that allows you to sail on a birth certificate, you don't need the 6 months on your passport. 6 months free on your passport is a requirement that SOME countries have, almost always for when arriving by air. But if you are able to travel on a birth certificate, all you u need is to show that you are a US citizen, which a valid passport will do. If Round trip from Galveston the 6 month rule won't apply. Just check the countries for their rules. A bit late .

Sorry all, I did not read the OP's dates close enough; sure didn't catch the 1/1 sail date.
fdthird Posted December 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2016 I thought the same thing till I looked at the sail date and realized getting a renewed passport would be a challenge at best.
