winddawn Posted January 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2017 While the medallions appear to offer a lot of convenience and will improve some processes such as embarkation and debarkation, I don't really care for a medallion marketing to me during my cruise. One reason I cruise is to be unplugged. I'm referring to the statement in the article that provides an example of someone who enjoys wine being alerted there is a wine tasting event going on. Domergirl Posted January 4, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2017 This is not unlike the Magic Bands that Disney uses in its parks. I imagine it will also let them track guest patterns....such as who spends how much time in the casino, in Serenity, etc. some will hate this, but I don't mind. There are advantages....for example, if they see that I'm spending a lot of time in line (pizza, etc)...maybe they get more chefs!! I agree that the marketing piece could get intrusive/annoying. I would hope they would offer an opt in/out for that. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
BenjiRodney Posted January 4, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2017 I really liked the Magic Bands at Disney, but I save my S&S cards at the end. Hope the Medallions are personalized for each trip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

nealstuber Posted January 5, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2017 Reading through this, there is one thing I like about the proposed process, that is almost nostalgic in nature: They are going to send the medallions ahead of time. This will inspire a new and improved version of the currently obsolete "Doc Dance" that DW and I used to do when the book and tags arrived in the mail. If it comes with a countdown clock already on it, pretty sure DW and I will be wearing it from the time it arrives! txskier Posted January 5, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2017 .....the RF technology to track ones habits on the ship is already being used at ski areas tracking what lifts and how many vertical feet you are skiing. Hopefully this can improve other areas that have been mentioned.

Now if they could just figure out that I like a shrimp cocktail and Merlot up front every night at dinner, and coffee while I peruse the dessert menu, they'd be all set. KroozFoolz Posted January 5, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 5, 2017 So will this mean they will know immediately when someone goes overboard? Who it is, where, and what time?
originalgeek Posted January 5, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) Not happy or interested in wearing a 'medallion' or bracelet! you don't have to - it's about the size of a quarter and you can wear it or just put it in your pocket. They have accessories you can buy to make it watch-like or a necklace or just put the disc in your pocket OR the article says you can forego it completely and just do Sign and Sail card. I do some leather work - it comes with a complimentary plastic band to make it wearable as a watch/bracelet. I'm gonna try to find out the dimensions and mechanisms involved and see if I can make my own band... ADVANCE NOTICE TO ALL CC READERS: I am a nerd and a geek. I love this thing. I do not apologize for it but want I to you warn you that I might cheerlead for this device. ;) I just told my son I may have to take a Princess cruise this year bc I can't stand waiting until it comes to Carnival. originalgeek Posted January 5, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 5, 2017 here's a question: Do you just get one that you keep for all future cruises or do you get a new one for every cruise? (Or maybe a new one for each different Carnival cruise line once they get to all of them?)

Then have you heard about the guy that has a chip implanted under his skin and can program it to open his hotel room door by just holding his wrist up to the door after he programs the chip in his wrist to match his room key chip? bar1068 Posted January 6, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Now if they could just figure out that I like a shrimp cocktail and Merlot up front every night at dinner, and coffee while I peruse the dessert menu, they'd be all set. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I was watching videos on FB about the announcement of these at the CES. I only cruised through the vid once, but first impression was coupled with a smartphone or tablet app, it just may be able to do what you'd like, or something close to it. Kanyon71 Posted January 6, 2017 #19 Share Posted January 6, 2017 We have the Magic Bands from Disney (we had yearly passes for a while) and loved the bands. Made many things there a lot easier. This system is designed by the people who put magic bands at disney so I would think it's going to be as good if not better than those as they now have all the feedback from that implementation. Being a geek myself I look forward to seeing what cool things they do with it. I'm not worried that they know where I am or what I'm drinking or so forth, they have cameras all over the place if they really wanted to know that anyway. As for the smart phone portion I now my wife and I RARELY take our phones with us on the ship when we are onboard. No need for it outside of being able to tell the time. On our cruise last year I am pretty sure I threw mine in the safe when we got onboard and took it out only a couple times to play some game on it late at night. With my job I am on the phone enough so it's nice to disconnect when I can lol.
jakeT Posted January 6, 2017 #20 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Kinder better then Disneys, it will unlock your door when you get close to it. Don't have to ding anything getting on or off the ship. Like to see the menu preferences thing. Does that mean I can get shrimp at every meal ???
