cruisentn Posted January 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Does anyone know if Royal Caribbean is coming back to sail out of New Orleans? I've had it with Carnival. Thanks.
Rare Saint Greg Posted January 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2017 I recall a CD I had last year talking about a new cruise terminal or something that was going to be built in New Orleans and I believe he said it was going to be for Royal Caribbean. JTBCruiser Posted January 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2017 Hoping this is true as DW and I loved sailing out of NOLA and going down the Mississippi. So many things to do and see both before and after the cruise.

I agree , New Orleans is a great city to leave from , so many great restaurants and also great music, casino's etc , much rather leave from there rather than Texas ports
cruisentn Posted January 12, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted January 12, 2017 Hope it does. Sailed the Serenade once and it was outstanding. Won't be back on Carnival.

Lynda59 Posted January 22, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2017 Try the NCL cruise out of New Orleans. We did New Orleans to Boston a few years ago and had a wonderful time.
Fr8Hauler Posted February 2, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Hello all. To the original question. No. Nothing shows into early 2018, and from what I'm told, no plans for RCI at all. As a resident of the New Orleans area, I would love to see more lines. In 2011 their was talk, CCL (Has their own tml), RCI was going to build, NCL was going to build, and Holland. Evan a rumor of Disney. No clue on that one, just talk or wishful thinking. A lot of talk was going on. Even some preliminary construction to the Port of Embarkation (Poland St.), and Pauline St wharf. The economy slowed and everything seemed to fall apart. Then Royal pulled out. Leaving just CCL, and the seasonal NCL. My understanding is that CCL is in contract for 4 years.(?) Fast forward to today. YES they are talking about grand plans. However. The "folks" along the wharf and river areas are fighting it tooth and nail. As I understand it, they have already voiced opposition at a most recent planning meeting. They are using the "historical" path, "Hysterical" to me, and are saying that they don't need it, don't want the traffic, and certainly don't want the etc. The city has its own issues, but like many they "seem" to be asking what are you going to do for us, not what can we do to bring your company and the associated improvements that come along with it. I do hope they work something out. We'll just have to wait and see.

I remember the people living by Tulane didn't want a football stadium in their neighborhood but they came to a compromise. Tourism is good for the city. Thorncroft Posted February 2, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2017 I had read that the people living in the area didn't want tourists around. Hopefully they work it out. I remember the people living by Tulane didn't want a football stadium in their neighborhood but they came to a compromise. Tourism is good for the city. If they build a terminal at Poland Ave and the traffic has to go down Poland Ave to get to it, I can see why the neighborhood would oppose it. It's a narrow residential street. Lady Patriot Posted February 4, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 4, 2017 We just sailed out of NOLA on the Norwegian Dawn last week. Might be worth a look. It's almost part river cruise, as the ship sailed down a canal for 103 or so miles before coming out into international waters.
EmeraldCoastCruisers Posted February 8, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 8, 2017 Loved our first NCL cruise we took in November out of NOLA. I've been on RCI and Carnival and this was our first NCL. Like it so much we came home and immediately booked another. Sent from my iPad using Forums
