Pink Lady One Posted November 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2005 I would like to find either a hotel or B&B that is within walking distance to the train station. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or one in a nearby town (like Portsmouth?). Thank you for your help. Monica
KarenR_UK Posted November 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2005 If its just a hotel near a train station in the Southampton area you are after you could get off at Southampton Airport Parkway station and use the Premier Travel Inn - it is practically next door - A cab into Southampton / docks from there would probably cost in the region of £10 - £15. There are other hotels in Southampton (obviously) - I think the Novatel & Ibis are very close to the main Southampton Central station - they could just be considered to be within walking distance - I've not walked it and haven't been down that way for a while so its difficult to say. You could have a look at these websites of the area http://www.southampton.gov.uk/ http://www.visit-southampton.co.uk/ there is accomodation info on them - perhaps with links to maps. Hope this helps. Karen

Gawga Girl Posted December 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2005 We stayed in a B&B in Hedge End, at Southampton last May. The service was beyond compare, a short walk to the train and they arranged transportation to and from Gatwick, also to the port. Helped us with dinner and sight seeing arrangements, even driving us to dinner. Contact: marinershouse.co.uk Great people!
phabric Posted June 7, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2006 Gawga Girl Trying to make plans for cruise July/07 out of Southampton. -Can you tell me about your stay at the Mariners House. -What type of room did you have. Can I ask the price. -How did you get from airport (we will be flying into Heathrow) to the B& -Was it close to anything. Do you need a taxi to go anywhere into town. - Did you go outside of Southampton to see anything. Is it worth staying a couple of days to see things or only 1 day before cruise. - How did you get to the port. -I noticed on their site that they will arrange transportation "people movers" what is that. Would appreciate any help from someone that has been there.
