Looking for a hotel near FLL airport

Hi,

Now that my cruise plans are in place, all I need now is a hotel to crash in the night before my cruise. I'm flying into Ft. Lauderdale and would like something close to the airport so on the day of my cruise I can get back to the airport and catch my shuttle to port of Miami.

What would you recommend.

Nevermind. I found a rate for $122 at the Ramada Inn FL Airport. I know it's not the Ritz, but for 1 nigtht it will be fine.

I would keep looking, that's not a nice place, and not in a nice neighborhood. It's also a lot farther away from the airport than all of the places I listed above... Try AmeriSuites if you want something cheap, they're quite inexpensive through Valuetrips, and have free airport shuttles. Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" is also inexpensive, and has free airport shuttles... Both are much nicer places in much nicer, safer neighborhoods.

Oooh, yeah MLK day weekend and President's day weekend are both very difficult to get anything decent at a good price. Holiday Inn Express Convention Center is a nice place though, and they have an airport shuttle.

Trent you seem to have a wealth of knowledge. We are considering a few hotels prior to our Jan. cruise. Can you give your input or recommendation on these hotels, Hyatt Pier 66, Sheraton Yankee Clipper or Yankee Trader? We're looking for a nice place to relax and start the cruise off right. Thanks for your assistance.

TrentS,

I didn't even think of that being the end of MLK B-Day week when I planned the cruise because of the great deal I got. I could have gotten into the Marriott Courtyard Dania Beach, but they wanted $32 more a night plus it seems that there is more food choices within walking distance at the Holiday Inn.

Trent,

Thanks to you, we had a great experience with Extended Stay Convention 10/21/05. Because it was near to airport, REALLY CLOSE TO PORT (with a view of our Caribbean Princess when we opened the curtains the next morning), across the street from Einstein Bagels and priced at $71 tax included, we opted to use them again for 12/10/05. As I feared, the price had gone up................it was a dollar more than we paid in October! ! ! ! We have even asked for the same room curious to see what ship we'll see this time.

Thank you again. As far as I'm concerned, you're the go-to man for hotels in Lauderdale.

Yes, you're much better off going with Holiday Inn Express Convention Center if you want food. There's only 1 restaurant within walking distance of Marriott Courtyard, but there are dozens of restaurants of all types surrounding the Holiday Inn Express.

Hyatt Pier 66 is a beautiful property, but it's currently undergoing a massive remodeling project. I would highly recommend them, but at this point I would wait until the remodeling is finished sometime next year. I don't know the exact date but it won't all be done in January.

The 2 Sheratons are a bit old and tired IMO. They're suppose to be remodeled soon, but until they are I would pass on them.

It sounds like you want a resort type property on the water. I would try the Harbor Beach Marriott, it's a wonderful hotel on the nicest part of Fort Lauderdale Beach, 5 minutes from Port Everglades... http://www.marriottharborbeach.com/

Lago Mar is an older, but very nice independent resort, just down the beach from the Marriott... http://www.lagomar.com/

Pelican Beach resort's new tower is gorgeous. It's at the north end of Fort Lauderdale Beach, about 15 minutes from Port Everglades...

Oh thanks. I'm glad you liked Extended Stay America. It's a nice place, the location is great, and it's frequently priced VERY well!

My Wife a I stayed at the Hyatt Peir 66 when we cruise on the MS Volendam. Ask for a low level garden room, they are very nice a quite large. Its just a short walk to the pool and pool bar/restaurant. Price is around $120-$130. If you haven't booked the hotel through the cruise line, you can purchase transfers from the cruise line or just take a cab. It's only about 1.5 miles from the peir.

I checked the listings provided, but am don't know the area - and when I went to the web sites I didn't see 17th street listed. Jan

Jan - The last weekend in October is BOAT SHOW weekend! Hotels sell out a year in advance and are VERY expensive! All I can tell you to do is try them all and hope you get lucky, but close to the port is difficult and very expensive.

TrentS,

Since I will be in FLL for most of Jan 20, I wanted someplace that had some resturants around it so I could eat and Holiday Inn Express was the onlyone that I could find.

Any suggestions on what I should do for the day while I'm in FLL.

Thanks Trent - I finally ended up calling Ameri-suites and I was able to secure a room for $129.00 for the dates needed - they have a "real" free breakfast (eggs, etc) and have a shuttle from the airport and to the cruise port. Thank you for your help - Jan

Well you've got the beach a few minutes away.

Las Olas Blvd. is a nice upscale shopping street with many nice restaurants... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/

You can take the Water Taxi up there and get a nice tour along the way, it's closest stop is a couple of blocks from Holiday Inn Express at the Marina Marriott... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

The King Tut exhibit will be at the Museum of Art then... http://www.moafl.org/home.htm

TrentS, I just booked the Ramada Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise port for two nights at $93/night. Now you have me worried about the part of town. Is this the hotel that you said is in a bad part of town? Thanks for any info.

We have had a reservation at the Hyatt 11/25 for 6 months and our friends will be arriving 11/20 for the week. We are all coming from California. You said they are going thru renovations. Is this all hurricane damage...do you really recommend changing hotels? It's only for 1 night. Thanks for your help.
