Rare Copper10-8 Posted January 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2017 NADM's dry-dock is scheduled between 05-18 NOV 2017 at Freeport. She'll receive standard maintenance plus the Lincoln Center Stage instead of Explorers Lounge; “Billboard Onboard” / “Dueling pianos” instead of the Piano Bar and part of the Casino; the Gallery (Arts) Bar instead of the Northern Lights; “Market Place” conversion inside the Lido; New York Pizza instead of Slice; Suite upgrades and improvements incl. interactive TVs, new furniture, modern fixtures and new carpeting; and a Spa upgrade

RuthC Posted January 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2017 Rooms don't have the interactive TV yet? Yes, the Nieuw Amsterdam has had the interactive televisions for over a year now. They have also had the Marketplace and New York Pizza for at least that long, too.

agtsw Posted January 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2017 We were on both Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam in December and yes, Nieuw Amsterdam does have interactive TV. However, it does not have all the functionality that the Eurodam does, for example, on Eurodam you could view daily menus while on Nieuw Amsterdam you could not. I also recently saw on another thread that some December 2017 Nieuw Amsterdam cruises have been cancelled with speculation the drydock scheduled for November 2017 has been rescheduled for December 2017. OlsSalt Posted January 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2017 Countdown time to the NA for me. I'll report back in a few weeks or at least say good by to my standard old HAL favorites that soon will be gone, like the old Explorers Lounge and the Piano Bar. Looking forward to my first experience on one of the "larger" HAL ships. Looks like a good combo of what we like about the Vista ships - those great Signature Suite cabins, and a few more extras like the Silk Den and Tamarind extra top deck "pod". I think I will eat just sushi all 10 days - can almost taste it right now. Wonder how that will work out ...after day three?
littledogsrcute Posted January 14, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2017 I hope they change the smoked glass mirror to clear mirror above the desk area so you can see yourself to put on makeup or do your hair. Been on this ship twice and I absolutely hate the smoked colored mirror. The smoke colored mirror above the bed is ok, just not for the makeup mirror area. wales4ever Posted January 14, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2017 The ship looked fine to me last month anyway. AS for the TV's we could not access our on board account on the TV we had to get a print out from the machine next to the main desk.

AS for the TV's we could not access our on board account on the TV we had to get a print out from the machine next to the main desk. On the Koningsdam last month the on-board account info was also not available via the interactive TV. I asked the front destroy and was told that they don't know when that will be available. There were 2 kiosks by the front desk area to get a printout.

News today they think the prior Egypt Air crash with loss of all lives aboard was somehow connected to some electronic devices carelessly left near bottles of perfume in the cockpit, which caused the original fire. Lithium batteries being the suspected culprit. Is it time to become nervous about passengers possession of some of these self-immolating electronic products, that could jeopardize all our safety while on board in this closed system ship environment. Airlines are now banning all Samsung Galaxy devices. When will cruise ship do the same thing. Edited January 14, 2017 by OlsSalt

I think the cruise lines would have a difficult time banning all cell phones.

I worry more about self-immolating lithium battery devices than I do about jewel thieves today. Edited January 14, 2017 by OlsSalt

daisy-mae Posted February 23, 2017 #22 Share Posted February 23, 2017 I hope they change the smoked glass mirror to clear mirror above the desk area so you can see yourself to put on makeup or do your hair. Been on this ship twice and I absolutely hate the smoked colored mirror. The smoke colored mirror above the bed is ok, just not for the makeup mirror area. I was on the ship for 10 days recently and honestly did not notice the smoked glass in our VB cabin (maybe only a feature in the higher category cabins?) In any case, the convenient lighted mirror above the desk was more than adequate for hair styling and make-up application. The one thing that could/should be replaced is the small sofa-bed with the one-piece seat cushion that keeps sliding forward - making it almost impossible to sit comfortably.
