heading out on the harmony.

preloaded the app.

now when does it become active?

while in the holding pen before boarding. or when we physically step onboard the ship.

HOW do we activate it?

how do we pay for it? & how does it connect to our account?

everyone gets their own id? is it a text number or a phone number?

then do you hunt people down asking them their number so you can call it?

& it is each phone/app??? or per cabin?

you can use it for both texting & calling , like phone? but it doesn't ring?

does it ping, or other silent mode when you are in shows etc?

thanks

I don't remember if it worked while we were waiting to board, I don't think it did tho...

Its just like any other app... put your phone in airplane mode, open the app, the first time connecting it will go through a basic set up. After setup is complete, you can view your calendar, compass and such. I think you also get your personal ID number and that is the number you give to your friends and family to reach you on. You both have to be connected to the app, $7.95 per phone for the txt/call portion

It vibrates, I don't believe it rings... hopefully someone else can fill in what I don't remember

You will be prompted for your onboard account info, which is on your SeaPass card and SeaSail Pass.

Everyone gets a unique (I believe it was an 8 digit number) when you sign up and pay for the texting functionality.

You will need to add these people one by one to your "address" book using that 8 digit number. You only need to enter it once, and they will remain on your list of contacts.

On the iphone I received pop up notifications and an alert chime.

To add to what has already been said -

My phone vibrated when someone was sending a text or calling.

Each person in the cabin must pay the $7.95 and will have their own number.

The number on Anthem was 88 your cabin number and depending on how many persons were in the cabin 01, 02, 03 04. So if there were 2 people in cabin 11250 the number for the first person would be 881125001 and the second person 881125002.

You can also just call a cabin by dialing just the cabin number.

Do I need to buy an internet package also if I only need the phone/text feature? My friend called customer service last night to buy the beverage package and was told that you will need to buy an internet package for this to work. Is it true?

No, you don't need to purchase an internet package if all you want is to phone or text others on the same cruise who are also using the Royal IQ app and have paid for $7.95 fee.

For others who read this, Royal IQ only works on Quantum class and Harmony.

Maybe a stupid question but if one person has the internet package on their phone are they able to text and communicate with others on the ship that didn't get VOOM but did do the 7.95 w app?

The sender and receiver must have the same package.

If they both have Voom, they can use smartphone texting via WiFi internet.

If they both paid the 7.95 for the app, they can use the IQ texting and calling.

The talk and text features of the app only work if you pay the fee, even if you also have an internet package.

Am I correct that if we are iPhone users and have Voom on each device, we are probably better off using iMessage v. Royal IQ's texting app?

Yes, in that case using the iQ app for texting would be unnecessary. Still useful for its other features, though.

If you have VOOM and have WiFi calling enabled, you can text non-iPhone users too.

It's unfortunate that that feature still isn't supported by all phones. Or, in my case, Verizon won't enable it because my Nexus phone isn't "theirs". #frustrating
