stateroom category??

Location, location, location.

Some mini's are in the center of the ship, some forward, some aft and they can be on different decks. The pricing is: the higher the deck or towards the middle, the more expensive. If you don't care about the deck or where the cabin is on the deck, then book the less-expensive category. The cabins themselves are identical.

Location, location, location.

Meaning what part of the ship. As a general rule (although I'm sure there are exceptions) the higher categories (e.g. AA is higher than AC and AC is higher than AE etc.) mean the stateroom is closer to midships. Further aft and further forward are often a bit less expensive (but I like built-in exercise regimen that such a location dictates).

Also - higher decks typically cost more than lower decks.

Ok that helps.. I have never cruised before. But we are going on our wedding cruise next may.. My fiance and I are booked on Dolphin in a mini-suite and the rest of the people are on higher floors but it in just regular balconies. I was suprised that we were on a level lower myself cause I always thought the higher the better?

We are sailing on the Caribbean Princess.

So again I am confused.

Does anyone know of a book or something that is like cruising for dummies? I think I need it.

It all depends on whether the mini-s are in the center of the ship or not. The best ones will usually cost more and as you going either forward or aft the price is lower. Hope this helps.

A mini-suite is more expensive than a regular balcony, regardless of its location on the ship.

There are several basic types of cabins, such as Inside, Outside (oceanview, no balcony), Balcony, Mini-Suite and Full Suite. Within each type of cabin, the category and cost will depend upon the location.

Thus, a balcony on a higher deck will be less than a mini-suite on a lower deck.

Just visit this site frequently and search the forums for specific info using the search feature...this will beat any "cruising for dummies" book. There is a lot of repeat inquiries so even if you just read through the daily posts you will be an expert in a few weeks.

I would take a mini-suite over a balcony cabin any time - even on a lower deck. The Dolphin deck mini's have an open balcony rather than one that's partially or totally voered like the upper decks but the extra space, full bathtub and extra amenities/upgrades of hte mini-suite are wonderful. I was recently in D120 mini on the CB - almost all the way forward on port side.

It's a bit of a hike to the main dining rooms, which are aft, but you're close to the casino. to Princess theater and also not far fro the adults only Spa pool and hot tubs - an area that is usually very uncrowded and great fun to hang out in. (if you don't like big crowds).

Trust me on this - you will LOVE your stateroom and will also be spoiled - you may find it hard to cruise in anything less than that in the future.
