whirlybird3 Posted January 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2017 We are booked on a cruise departing Valparaiso, Chile on December 8th which happens to be on the religious holiday, Immaculate Conception. I have been informed that wineries in Casablanca will be closed along with road closures. We will be flying into Santiago, Chili and will be embarking on the ship in Valparaiso. Has anyone encountered difficulty in transportation to the port during this holiday? Any advice? The road closures will occur December 7, 8 and 9th to allow people safely travel by foot and bike to the celebration.
bunnyette Posted January 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2017 I am disembarking the same day but we are staying for a few days afterwards. You might want to consider taking a celebrity transfer to the port if possible but anyone taking you to the port will get you there. Have you considered going down the day before? Yes, we arrive on December 6th. We were going to tour several wineries in Casablanca, then ending in Valparaiso on December 7th. We are currently looking into other options. LisaAtlCruiser Posted January 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2017 I am on the same cruise and my flight lands the morning of Dec 7th. Given what you wrote, I think I may prebook transport to Valparaiso.
Chairsin Posted January 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2017 We arrived in Santiago this past December on the 8th. We had no trouble getting from the airport to our hotel in Providencia in Santiago and did not see any sign of road closures enroute. bunnyette Posted January 28, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2017 Any good tour operator will ensure you get where you need to be. DIY might require careful research. Plus, I always enjoy seeing a holiday in another country. Yes things might be closed but then other things related to that holiday might be happening. I've booked some tours for after our cruise and both were available, luckily the vineyard tour is on Sunday when everything is open again. LisaAtlCruiser Posted January 28, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2017 I did some research and even if the main road is closed between Santiago and Valparaiso - there is an alternate route. From what I read that route takes a bit longer so the transport will cost a little more. But...at least we will get there.
