SeaNStars4Me Posted January 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2017 Considering booking the Tulim Ruins Tour which includes shopping through Holland America. Has anyone been on this? Experience? I did the 'Best of Cozumel" tour the last time I was there which included stops at a tequila store, chocolate shop, museum and settlement and shopping so I'm looking for something different. Suggestions?
JohninDC Posted January 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2017 My suggestion is to find something you want to do on Cozumel instead of taking a tour that involves a 45+ minute (sometimes rough ) ferry trip to/from Playa del Carmen and a long bus ride to/from the ruins. Lots of great beach clubs, snorkeling, sailing and other things to enjoy on Coz. Unless seeing the ruins is a bucket list item, and you do not anticipate returning to the mainland, I would not sign up for a tour where you will spend lots of time getting to/from and comparatively little time at the ruins. ABQrobin Posted January 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2017 I wish everyone would quit telling people not to take a mainland based excursion because of fear of the ferry. Yes, it is a boat. Yes, it goes across a deep channel and takes 40-50 minutes. Yes, there are waves if it is windy. Nuff said. There are so many great excursions over on the mainland - Tulum, Coba, jungle adventures, cenotes, shopping on 5th ave in Playa del Carmen. Don't skip an excursion just because the ferry "might" be rocky.
JohninDC Posted January 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2017 Too many novice cruiser are unaware of the ferry requirement/hazards. IMHO there is too much to do on Cozumel to spend the time going back and forth to the mainland - but I try to answer questions with information based upon my experiences (both cruising and visiting AI resorts in Mexico) and let the posters make their own informed decision.
