travelteam Posted November 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Any information on the best way to get to Smugglers Cove would be appreciated. Does it pay to do a car rental, or do taxi's drop off and pick up there. Smugglers looks less crowded than Cane Garden Bay.
rtroeh Posted November 15, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We rented a car on Tortola. The mainstream car rentals were out of cars but found a small hole-in-the-wall place called "iTGO". We rented a 5-speed Nissan Sentra for $45 including insurance. It was pretty beat up but it got us around. The road to Smuggler's cove is pretty rugged and that little Sentra bottomed out several times (biggest speed bumps I have ever seen!!!), but once we got there it was all worth it! There were only about 10 other people on the beach, the views were spectacular, and there is a wonderful reef to snorkel on the left side. As long as you don't mind driving a 5-speed on the left side of the road on some major hills (kind of fun to me!!!) renting a car is the way to go on Tortola. hylasgirl Posted November 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 20, 2005 Is there taxi service that will take you to smuggler's cove?? And are there plenty that will pick you back up?
rtroeh Posted November 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2005 I'm sure you could get a taxi to take you there. We didn't see any just sitting there waiting, so you would have to make arrangements for a pick-up. That makes me a little nervous which is why we went ahead and rented the car. hylasgirl Posted November 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2005 That would make me nervous too! Thanks for the info... I don't think I would be "ok" with hoping they come back for us. Thank you
