Crossing the International Date Line

I have looked this up on the search but can't seem to find an answer.

I am on a cruise from Sydney to Seattle which is listed as 22 nights which it is if you look at the calendar.

Am I right is concluding that in reality there will only be 23 nights since we gain a day and the day for example after the crossing on Tuesday is Tuesday again?

On a side thought how does the cruise line charge for gratuities? Is it 22 nights or 23?
