Onboard credit question

Hello,

If I buy an onboard credit and do not use it all, can I redeem it for cash? I know travel agent onboard credits cannot be redeemed, but can leftovers from a self-purchased onboard credit be redeemed for cash or a credit card statement credit?

What is the best way to purchase an onboard credit?

The norm is that they will clear up to $50 on your folio in cash on the last day; more than that is normally sent as a cheque.

You can get cash from the Casino cage but that will cost you a 3% fee. That is a good method if you have bought OBC using a foreign currency at a rate that is better than the present exchange rate. It works well if you bought using CAD or UKP a year ago!!

That is the way to buy it!!!!

However if you want to do it now:- Go through "My Holiday Home" then "Explore & Plan"

If you think you may not use your purchased on board credit - why buy it? You are not saving anything by doing that, and you are tying up money that may not even be used.

You can get a refund of purchased on board credit if you buy it and don't use it,

Thanks! Do you know if it would go back to the credit card I purchased it with or would it just go back to the credit card I link for my onboard account?

Probably to the credit card linked to your onboard account if they put it on a credit card. But they usually send a check.

One reason I can see buying it is for offers like Amex has right now. Get $100 if you spend $500. So you buy the credit, may use some of it but not the full $500 so you want to get refunded the difference. So in the example. I get $500 credit but only need to pay $400 for it. Now I spend $300 of it on the ship but get $200 returned to me. That means I ended up saving myself $100 on $300 worth of charges. A 33% savings.
