heathermiller86nj Posted February 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2017 Hello, If I buy an onboard credit and do not use it all, can I redeem it for cash? I know travel agent onboard credits cannot be redeemed, but can leftovers from a self-purchased onboard credit be redeemed for cash or a credit card statement credit? What is the best way to purchase an onboard credit?

What is the best way to purchase an onboard credit? The norm is that they will clear up to $50 on your folio in cash on the last day; more than that is normally sent as a cheque. You can get cash from the Casino cage but that will cost you a 3% fee. That is a good method if you have bought OBC using a foreign currency at a rate that is better than the present exchange rate. It works well if you bought using CAD or UKP a year ago!! That is the way to buy it!!!! However if you want to do it now:- Go through "My Holiday Home" then "Explore & Plan"
heathermiller86nj Posted February 14, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted February 14, 2017 If I buy onboard credit with a different credit card than what I use for my onboard account, if I have leftover onboard credit from what I purchased, will it go back to the card I purchased it with or to the card linked to my onboard account? Thank you very much.

What is the best way to purchase an onboard credit? If you think you may not use your purchased on board credit - why buy it? You are not saving anything by doing that, and you are tying up money that may not even be used. You can get a refund of purchased on board credit if you buy it and don't use it,
heathermiller86nj Posted February 14, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted February 14, 2017 Thanks! Do you know if it would go back to the credit card I purchased it with or would it just go back to the credit card I link for my onboard account?
casofilia Posted February 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2017 Check with NCL as it may be refunded by cheque not returned to any credit card especially if you have used different credit cards.
NMLady Posted February 14, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 14, 2017 Thanks! Do you know if it would go back to the credit card I purchased it with or would it just go back to the credit card I link for my onboard account? Probably to the credit card linked to your onboard account if they put it on a credit card. But they usually send a check.
Cyclops32 Posted February 14, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2017 If you think you may not use your purchased on board credit - why buy it? You are not saving anything by doing that, and you are tying up money that may not even be used. You can get a refund of purchased on board credit if you buy it and don't use it, One reason I can see buying it is for offers like Amex has right now. Get $100 if you spend $500. So you buy the credit, may use some of it but not the full $500 so you want to get refunded the difference. So in the example. I get $500 credit but only need to pay $400 for it. Now I spend $300 of it on the ship but get $200 returned to me. That means I ended up saving myself $100 on $300 worth of charges. A 33% savings.
