We are cruising on the 8-day E. Caribbean cruise in March (Labadee, San Juan, St. Maarten, and St Kitts). I'm wondering how currency works. Do I need to exchange American dollars for local currency? Can I use my credit card in some places?

All those places take US Dollars. You can also use your credit card, though your card company may charge a foreign transaction fee.

There are a ton of cards you can get that don't have a foreign transaction fee. I have a bank of America travel card that has no annual fee, no transaction fee, rewards and 0% for 12 months.
