Queen Victoria May 2017 Refit

It would appear from a number of recent comments, on another thread, that I may be the only member of Cruise Critic to think that the planned May 2017 refit for Queen Victoria will be a beneficial move.

Taking aside the increase in passenger accommodation, which Cunard obviously feel they will have little difficulty in filling, I feel the opportunity to add Britannia Club accommodation and dining is a positive move.

The extension to deck 8 also ensures that deck 9 (Lido) offers more open deck space: though I'm sure someone will point out that the additional passengers will negate any advantage.

Personally I've never been a fan of the Chart Room on Queen Victoria, preferring to patronise the more iconic Commodore Club for my pre and post dinner imbibing.

Who knows, I may now add Queen Victoria back onto my list as in recent years I have preferred her younger sister.

So at least now we can have a debate.

Apart from the fact I'll miss the lovely aft facing balconies, I tend to agree wth you Solent Richard. I don't much like the Chart Room, and also prefer the Commodore Club, albeit a poor substitution for the CC in QM2. And the addition of Britannia Club can only be positive in my view.

So generally, I don't much mind the alterations......but I shall miss those balconies.

I assumed that like Arcadia when she was s t r e t c h e d, the balconies will be shortened. Ahh well, I'll find out in August, as we have an aft facing cabin on deck 5.

I would have thought so too, I don't see how you can square off the stern and still keep those large balconies.

Being a simple chap I opened two windows and did a visual comparison. Decks 6,7 and 8 all look pretty much the same size to me.

Decks 6 & 7 aft are the Grand Suites: can't see them being reduced in size.

Thank you Richard :)

(It's amazing how many of those rear-facing balconies come without dividing screens to give some privacy from one's neighbours :D and a few others come without doors to access one's balcony :D :D )

Like you, I much prefer QE to QV. I'm booked on QE, maybe, after the rebuild, I'll try QV again (something I'd not intended to do).

Best wishes,
