garardo Posted November 15, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I have read a lot about how poor the little canapes are. Who would you call to see what else is available. We were thinking of a few small chunks of Parmigiano cheese, marinated olives, cold boiled shrimp, nuts, gorganzola cheese, crackers, cut ripe fruit, smoked salmon. Not all of these at one time but things along this line. garardo

At that time, you can tell him what appetizers you would prefer to have each afternoon.

SS Cruise Lady Posted November 15, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2005 What if you are in a CC cabin? You would then ask your cabin steward.

Leela Posted November 15, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I must be weird, or lucky, because my Mom & I liked our canapes. We received celery stuffed with blue cheese which had a little wine mixed in, toast points with a bit of sour cream and caviar, little toast rounds with a shrimp, some mayonnaise, and a sprig of dill on them, and other assorted tasty bits. The only one I didn't like is the one with anchovy on it. I've never liked anchovies.
Blazerboy Posted November 15, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Leela, you and I must be the only two! I like 'em, too. Even the anchovy ones! But, yes, Garardo, just ask your room steward for what you'd like. If you want a standing order for something, he or she will do their best. Room service is available 24/7, so whatever's on that menu is available to you, and sometimes, even requests for things not on the menu will be accomodated- we did request our butler on one cruise to 'up the ante' with the cheese and crackers from the boring ones they normally serve, and he did several times during the cruise. Last cruise, in CC, we stuck with the canapes a.) because I like 'em, and b.) because we were always going up for sushi at 6:00. and didn't really NEED any more food!:D Andrew
charlielinda Posted November 15, 2005 #9 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We told our Butler that we weren't very fond of the canapes having evening and would like something else. He said no problem and that he would take care of it. Somedays we'd get shrimp cocktails, some cheese and crackers and sometimes canapes. It was great! katiel53 Posted November 16, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2005 Garardo, You can ask your cabin steward, but I think you won't get all those things. You could get shrimp cocktail. I wouldn't count on chunks of Parmigiano or Gorgonzola. I don't know if you would even get smoked salmon. We have been in CC for the last several years and those weren't choices, not that we specificially asked for them. I might try a couple when I go on Constellation. I won't be upset if I can't get them as I am happy having cheeses and fruit. My guess, is that people in suites have a better chance than we do in CC, but I could be wrong. Either way, I will enjoy my canapes. Katie
nparmelee Posted November 16, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 16, 2005 We liked them too. We must be weird, oh wait, we knew that. I suggest trying them once, if you don't like them, ask your cabin steward or butler for cheese and crackers instead. In either case have a wonderful time. joelmarj Posted November 16, 2005 #12 Share Posted November 16, 2005 I'm a cheese fanatic, and on our last trip I asked if we could get a cheese plate. My SO teased me and said hey, I want the canapes so the butler said no problem - That day and every day after we got BOTH! A cheese place and the canapes. I must admit too, some of them were pretty good. I'm with you on the anchovies Andrew. The cheese varied each day, some of which were very good. dmarch@islc.net Posted November 16, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 16, 2005 I remember our first canape experience with X. After hanging out on this board I was expecting vienna sausage on a stick or maybe saltine a la deviled ham. I was pleasantly surprised.
Leela Posted November 16, 2005 #15 Share Posted November 16, 2005 I forgot to mention the smoked salmon on toast canape, too. That's another good one. By the way, the best food, including pasteries and canapes, I've had thus far on Celebrity was on Horizon. I wonder where her culinary staff went and hope they spread their wonderful taste and skill throughout the fleet!
