Premier Inn West Quay Southampton sale

Recommended Posts

Booked a room inclusive of taxes and fees for 41 gbp. They are advertising rooms for even less but not on our September cruise date. My cc was charged $51 usd. Non refundable rate. There's a 1 pound fee for credit card payment. No fee for debit card but it would not take my debit card.

It looks as though there are many dining choices nearby so I opted out of the meal packages.

Any suggestions for some relatively healthy restaurants in the area?

All the local restaurants will have reasonably 'healthy' options; veggie too.

Generally it's far better to pay for bookings by CC than DC. CC has far more protection if anything goes wrong. DC is pretty much the same as cash.

You got a bargain - I haven't see that sort of price for P.I. West Quay since the opening promo a few years back.

Good hotel, popular with cruisers, good location, 5-minute walk to old town & shopping centre, City and Ocean Cruise Terminals walkable, the others no more than £8 by taxi.

Adding a charge to cover credit card commission is quite common in the UK.

Usual for flights, vacations, car rentals, & purchases through agencies.

Sometimes hotels & household bills.

Very rarely for restaurants & shops.

An out-of-the-country debit card is always likely to be problematic over the internet. There's probably a work-around for a massive purchase, but obviously not worth it for a quid (£1)

I know my way round a lot of Southampton's eateries - but "healthy" kinda threw me :o

& I had to resort to TripAdvisor for their top healthy restaurants.

Don't know any of them, all I can tell you is that the top four - Lazak Maman, Amber Deli & Bistro, Mettricks (Guildhall Place) and Lemoni Grill House - are within a ten minute walk.

Leaving aside the particularly "healthy" options, amongst others that I can recommend within a 10 minute walk from your hotel are

- Duke of Wellington. Historic pub, good food. ££

- La Regata. Spanish ££ / £££

- Ennio's Italian ££ / £££

- Dancing Man (aka the Wool House). Historic building, atmospheric pub with gallery dining. Limited "pub" menu. ££

- Platform Tavern. Busy pub, often live music. ££

- Kuti's Royal Thai (in the historic Royal Pier ballroom, due for demolition redevelopment - boooo - but I don't know when) ££ - £££

All the above are in the same direction, and a pleasant stroll.

Further - probably worth a cab at least one way - Oxford Street has a selection of restaurants.

Haven't eaten at this Premier Inn, but have at others.

Good menu, good value, sensibly-priced wines.

Good value unlimited breakfast.

But a "hotel" atmosphere, and IMHO a better experience would be to head out to a nearby pub or restaurant.

All JMHO as always

JB :)
