Hi everyone. I am having no luck finding a hotel near the port for pre-cruise. We are on the Legend March 1 2006.

I have no problem renting a van at the airport for our small group and driving up to half an hour away to find a nice Hotel/Motel. I have my AAA guide and maps.

Does anyone have any suggetions or recomendations:D

Thanks.

I'm curious where you've been looking and not having any luck... Renaissance, Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center", Extended Stay America, and Embassy Suites all have rooms on that date, and you can't get any closer to the port than those.

You don't need a van if you stay at those SE 17th Street hotels either. They're less than 10 minutes from FLL, just outside the entrance to Port Everglades, and are in the best location possible for cruisers. They have dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within easy walking distance.

I suggest the Ramada Inn, free transportation from airport to hotel, and hotel to port, and free hot breakfast buffet in the morning. Price for your date 1 room/ 2 people, was 102.00. Check it out here http://www.ramada.com/Ramada/control/Booking/check_avail Good luck!

My dilemma is most of the Hotels are sold out on that date because of a convention. And "King Tut" has driven prices way up. A van rental split 6 ways is about $25pp plus we have wheels for pre-cruise shopping. Also no extra charge to pick-up at the airport and drop off near the port and have the rental company shuttle us.

I know there is some availibilty but the prices are at a premium so my thought was to kind of go "off-shore".

We've stayed pre-cruise at the Marriott Marina and at the Radisson in Port Canaveral, but the 8-day cruise was less than $1000. Why pay 25% of the cost of the Cruise itself for 1 night.

I guess my questions to the forum are. Has anyone stayed at a nice place that was reasonably priced within say 15-20 miles from the Port? Are there towns or places I should avoid ? Any locals want to chime in?

Thanks for the input so far.

Well go through the large list above. Those are all nice hotels within a half hour of the airport and port, but it's doubtful you're going to find anything decent that's less expensive than Extended Stay America, or Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center", both of which are VERY nice "budget" hotels a couple of blocks from Marina Marriott, and both of which have space for your date at $128 per night... That's an excellent rate, especially considering the time of year and their location!

And you won't need to spend any money renting a van if you stay at those as the Water Taxi and everything you could possibly want are within easy walking distance.

Think of it as a reflection on the wonderful deal you got on the cruise, actually. I'm spending a lot of money for one night in San Juan a week from Friday night relative to the cost of the cruise I'm leaving on, but that's because the market for hotel rooms in Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving is very hot, while the market for cruises immediately after Thanksgiving is ice cold.

By the way, Thanks for all the links. I am seeing stuff right around $100 and that is reasonable. $80 would be nice though.

$80 will not even get you into the nasty BW that we tell everyone to avoid. HIX on 17th St still has rooms available for $128 For February 28th, thats a steal. ;)

campdaan, driving up to a half an hour away is relative to the time of day in South Florida traffic. A thirty minute drive could be a mile away from about 7AM to 7PM.

I suggest you follow Trent & Bequia's advice.

The Water Taxi is the BEST way that we found to get around FLL when we made a trip out there in May. You can go to their website to learn about the stops and schedule. We liked the Water Taxi so much that we are going out 2 days before our cruise in December just to kick back in the area using the Water Taxi!

I ran into the same problem (finding a reasonably/regularly priced hotel) for the first week in March (pre-cruise). The rates at the 17th street hotels suggested were pretty high compared to past experiences we've had in the area. Same thing with Miami downtown hotels (we're flying into FLL and cruising out of Port of Miami). Must be something going on in S. FL that week?

This morning I did use the biddingfortravel strategy I normally use and got the Hyatt Pier 66 (which we've stayed at before and have enjoyed very much) for $115/night through priceline on my first free bid. Not the best deal we've gotten, but considering the other comparable hotels in the area are going for $299 & up for the dates we wanted, we were pretty pleased.

We always get a car. This gives us flexability. We have stayed in North Ft. Lauderdale at 2 different Marriott Courtyards that were very nice.

I checked out the one at Cypress. They have availability, 157.00 plus tax.

Yes, rates have gone up.

Go to the Marriott site and take a look. There are lots of hotels with availability.

Check La Quinta also. The La Quinta Inn and Suites in Hollywood start at 143.00.

I don't know if you are going to find anything decent for 80.00.

We got tired of horsing around with priceline for late Jan/eary Feb and shopped around.

Ended up reserving 2 efficiency apartments for 3 nights pre and post for $105 a night each at the Monte Carlo Resort Motel on Breakers Ave. about 1 mile south of the Galleria Mall and 1/2 mile north of Beach Place Mall.

We had a friend stop by and check it out last week and he said it looks like a nice place, one block west of the beach.

After reading some of poor reviews from those who have recently stayed at the Hyatt Pier 66 and knowing it will still be under renovations until mid January (this is the target date as of now but who knows??) I'm regretting getting this on Priceline for our January 9th stay. If I had it to do over I would have gone with the sure thing (Holiday Inn Express on 17th Street) which I know is quiet , clean and such a good value. Oh well, it's just for one night!

How late are these two stores open on a Saturday night? Liquor stores aren't open on Sunday , are they?

The Publix behind Extended Stay America is open until 11pm on Saturday nights.

Liquor stores are closed on Sunday MORNINGS. These are both on Cordova Road, across the street from each other, a block north of SE 17th Street...
