I noticed when finishing my online things, that it says choose a check-in time. We did not have to do this last year. Please explain what that all means. And do we HAVE to do that?

Yes you must choose a time, or Carnival will choose one for you.

 

Basically it is the time you think you will arrive at the port to check in.

So if you choose 11-11:30, you can check in (at the port) anytime after 11.

If you choose 1-1:30, you can check in anytime after 1, but not before. So if you were to show up at 11:00 they would not let you in the cruise terminal building to check in until 1.

Pretty much anytime after the "elites" of diamond and platinum. Otherwise they are trying to commit to the assigned boarding time and not let you in until then.
