miss meow Posted March 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2017 We are going to be buying Carnival gift cards between now and our cruise which isn't until December of next year... then we will use those for our sign and sail account. If we don't use all those funds by end of the cruise, how is the balance returned? Carnival gift card? Anyone know? kgb46 Posted March 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Anything over $10 will be sent back to you in about 3 weeks on a gift card. Anything under $10 is donated to St. Judes. You can always go to the casino on the last night and use your sign and sail in a slot machine. Spin it once or twice then cash it out at the casino cashier. miss meow Posted March 12, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Thanks for that answer.... If the refund in the form of a gift card, is it a Carnival gift card in that unless you go on another cruise, it's basically useless or in the form of like a Visa gift card? Sent from my SM-T813 using Forums mobile app Yes, that's correct. Sorry. Your best bet is to cash out in the casino. Easy peasy... miss meow Posted March 12, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Which is correct, the Carnival card or Visa gift card? I'll definitely keep in mind the idea of the casino, easier than waiting for refund.... just hate being in the casino around all the smoke. :-) Sent from my SM-T813 using Forums mobile app

maryred Posted March 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Just remember the gift cards can also be used before cruising. You can pre-order under your cruise manager any drink packages, in cabin items from the online FunShops (liquor, soft-drinks, souvenirs, room decor, flowers, specialty food & snacks), purchase excursions, and make spa appointments. The gift cards can also be used to pay off the remaining balance on the cruise fare or prepay the auto-gratuities (if not included in the original fare). If you search refund from gift cards you will read that some people on this board have said that they had money left over from refundable OBC and Carnival gift cards and have received a check weeks later from Carnival. So if your using a combination of Carnival and Visa gift cards you may just receive a check for all of it. I have not left any money on my S&S card before. I have used the casino trick on 2 cruises and it only takes a few minutes.
ImaginationCruiseBride Posted March 12, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Actually we were on the Breeze in February and about a week after we got home, we received a check in the mail. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CalaDragonflyLady Posted March 12, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Maybe it depends on the amount, but I've been getting checks (not gift cards) for my balances, within a week of my disembarkation. My current check is for $47, the last one was $23.
Shaded Lady Posted March 12, 2017 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Hmmm... leftover money in my sail & sign card..... not sure what that is! Is it like leftover wine? That's another mystery I've never solved! Seriously, my last cruise I bought a bunch of cruise cash (this year it's Carnival gift cards because of the 10% discount) and I had no issues cashing in the extra in the casino and getting cash. Way easier than waiting for a check and it literally took 10 minutes from walking into the smoky casino (I'm with you there :() til I walked out with my cash. Laurab23 Posted March 12, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2017 I would think, but don't know, that once you place money, either cash or gift card, that the computer just registers how much and just sends you a check for any over payment. miss meow Posted March 12, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Nice.... Thanks for all the replies. I guess we'll decide about casino cash out or wait when/if we have something left over. Any real limit as far as cash out in the casino? Sent from my SM-T813 using Forums mobile app
robandlil Posted March 12, 2017 #17 Share Posted March 12, 2017 I remember a 10% fee for taking out cash in the casino.
kids-in-2-centuries Posted March 13, 2017 #18 Share Posted March 13, 2017 I always use gift cards on my account, but I don't go to guest services and apply them until the end of the trip. That way I just pay off my balance, nothing left over. Also, if you wanted, you could go to Cherry on Top and buy a gift card with your S&S balance. DebbieMo Posted March 13, 2017 #19 Share Posted March 13, 2017 I had money left over on my account and cashed it out at the casino (no fee) but my parents who also had money left over forgot to cash theirs out and was sent a carnival gift card in the mail. If you need to cash out at the casino make sure you do it day before disembarkation day. The casino will not be open.
