Drink Package Question

First, This is not my first Carnival Cruise, but it is the first time purchasing the Cheers package.

I went to the Cheers page and purchased the package. When you check in do they add it to your sail and sign card then or do I have to get it added somewhere else?

Just wondering about when I go get that First Cruise Umbrella Drink.

remember though, your drinks aren't "free" until you're out of the port. You still have to pay tax on them. At least that's how it was in Port Canaveral last year, and Jacksonville the year before.

You do pay a petty tax on the drinks while in port so what your on vacation enjoy! We never received our sticker when we got our sail and sign cards, but simply go to the lobby bar or the casino bar and they will look you up on the list as having it and give you the sticker there while making your first drink.

So, when the bartenders say that the drink package doesn't kick in on embarkation day is this true? Do they go back and credit you for the first day or does that not count?

Depends on where you are sailing out of. If sailing out of Galveston or New York, then no the drink package doesn't kick in until the second day. And you are charged accordingly.

Out of any other port, it is available from the moment you walk on board, if you pre-paid.

Please keep in mind that in some ports the Cheers program does not start until the next day. Our homeport, Texas for instance. You aren't charged Cheers for embarkation day so you do have to pay for your first day's drinks. The other restricted port is New York. This has something to do with the state alcohol laws in both states. All others start the moment you embark.

We got a sticker on our cards at the first bar, first drink. Left our cards in my husband's swim trunks and mine came off, although you could still see part of it. We asked the lady at the coffee place what the purpose was. She said if we ordered a bucket or more than one drink, they could see at a glance that it was through Cheers, instead of not finding out until they scanned it. Seemed to make sense to us. As long as people only use it as it's supposed to be used, no sticker necessary.
