cloudydrms Posted March 23, 2017 #26 Share Posted March 23, 2017 If there is a lot of hallway noise, I find that opening the closet doors helps to buffer the sound. Many cruises back I discovered that if I opened up the closet doors it really lessened the noise from the hallway. We always sleep with the closet door open now. Half-Pint Posted March 23, 2017 #27 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I got tired of schlepping around bulky fans on vacation and having my family (that don't use fans to sleep) complain about it so I tried everything until I found the perfect solution. I now use a soft fabric headband that has speakers built into them. I can sync it with my phone. So now with my sound machine phone apps I can listen to the fan, white noise, rain, the sound of the beach or whatever else I want to. ;) And with it being right there against my ear, it's plenty loud, VERY realistic sounding, and drowns out ANY outside noise. Including my husbands snoring which sounds like a freight train and feels an earthquake. 😱 cruisinqt- Where did you find this headband? Sounds like an amazing option! My last cruise (and only so far) I brought a portable speaker, connected it to my phone and had it next to my side of the bed. But it had to be pretty loud to satisfy my need for the fan sound. I wondered how loud it was for our neighbors.

CrusieToy Posted March 23, 2017 #30 Share Posted March 23, 2017 So we're on deck 8 and I'm wondering if a travel fan will help block sound. I sleep with a fan on at home and it works the best for noise, so an app on my phone won't do the trick. Anyone have a recommendation for small travel fans that are really loud? we bring our white noise machine. works great

Organized Chaos Posted March 23, 2017 #32 Share Posted March 23, 2017 One good place to look is the camping section at Walmart (or other big box stores). That's where I got my 8" portable fan years ago. Still going strong. It runs on AC or DC. Also, I take a long extension cord (mine is 8 ft.) and that way I can put the fan right by my side of the bed. More airflow if needed but also closer to me, so louder. Remember the walls are thin ,no insulation in them , get a fan to loud or noise machine to loud and your neighbors will hear it to ... , We always book Spa Cabins ,,dead silent up there We were on deck 6 right above the casino and didn't hear a sound. Nor did we hear a peep from our neighbors on either side or behind us. The most noise came from people in the hallway. sturderick Posted March 23, 2017 #33 Share Posted March 23, 2017 It's a standard cheap box fan. Works great for white noise. They have a limited number and it's 1st come 1st served, so ask your steward immediately after boarding. Thanks! I wonder if I can get one at guest services in case I don't see my steward right away? This is why I don't keep the bathroom door open. I've been woken up with a startle a few times because of this :(.
bnorris10 Posted March 23, 2017 #35 Share Posted March 23, 2017 So something to think about if you "accidently" spill a bunch of water in your room and I say water so as you don't ruin the carpet they will bring in this blue ground blower like the ones you see in the lido deck entrance ... Just saying these things are nice and loud

But there's plenty to choose from (some are much cheaper) if you google "Bluetooth headband." They're also really nice for workouts, jogging, biking, etc. It helps keep my hair out of my face and also provides motivational music without messy wires from headphones. But it's best function is helping me sleep at night on vacation and at home. I get up at 5 am everyday for work but the rest of the family stays up late. Since I'm a light sleeper I hear EVERYTHING they do and say. These headbands are amazing. They drown out ALL outside sounds since they are right by your ears. But they are super soft and comfy. joellebridgers Posted March 24, 2017 #39 Share Posted March 24, 2017 Wow, that must be a loud fan if your phone isn't loud enough. My husband has inner ear problems, so white noise is a must to have for him to sleep. He has an app on his phone and he turns it up. He has a iPhone, not sure if that makes a difference in volume. There is an app called Sleepbug that has tons of sounds on it. It's great! Sent from my iPad using Forums

sturderick Posted March 24, 2017 #41 Share Posted March 24, 2017 Save your money. Prop balcony door open I think that messes with everyone else's air though. I used to prop mine open until I found that out.
