Navigator Review March 17th Sailing

Recommended Posts

There have been a few reviews lately on this ship, just thought I would add mine in.

--This was our 4th cruise in the last 8 years, and we are in our late 50's. We chose this cruise for the ports. Flew in from Chicago the night before, and stayed at Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon. It was a nice hotel and we used the free shuttle from MIA. When we checked in they reserved a shuttle to the port for $10. We also reserved with this company to take us back to MIA when we returned. It was simple.

--So we got to the port at 10:30 am on ship by 11:45 am. Most of the ship looks really good, some wear and tear, but who cares. We had balcony cabin on deck 7. Plenty of space and attendant was nice and friendly. Beds are firm, and pillows are flat, we asked for extra and received them that night.

--Food in dining room was good, not great. Less options. Waiter was good, asst. waiter was learning and needed to work on her English. Waiter told us the ship was short on waiters. We did not spend more money in specialty restaurants. When booking we requested a table for 6 (at 8 pm), we got a table for 10. One couple never showed up and some others missed some nights to go to specialty places. We did enjoy talking to the two couples that were there most nights. The whole dining room was half empty all week. Kind of spooky - like where did everyone go? I think My Time dining has really taken many from 8 pm dining.

--Windjammer was good not great, with not many healthy choices. We ate there for breakfast and lunches.

--Had drink package, no problems getting what we wanted, but bar service was slow. There were waiters walking around pool, but seemed to also take a long time to get drinks from them. Some drinks were made differently depending on bar. Not all wines available at all bars.

--Activities were varied, and sometimes not on time, or not much participation. Some music events were scheduled, but sometimes didn't happen. Singers and dancers were really good, and jazz orchestra was outstanding. They have such a variety. Different music types were scheduled at different locations so we could usually find something we liked. Cruise director was OK, but AD was boring and typical.

--Fitness center was well equipped but warm. Avoided the Casino as we hate smoke.

--Quest was a blast. Love and Marriage show was fun, but middle couple appeared to be cheating (according to friends sitting right up front).

--CC Meet and Mingle was a joke and an insult to it's members. It was scheduled at 11:30 am before we cruised. The day of the cruise some people got notice in cabin of the change to 10 am. Many people missed it. Basically it was just a raffle, and then get out of the club because they had another event happening. There was no -- how great to have you back, no thank you for loyalty, no interactions with the guests.

--Late night dancing did not have much action as the DJ is not so good. There were different musicians and entertainers each night at different locations. They were mostly really good.

--Did all RC shore excursions and they were good. Although during the Kayak trip at Labadee the leader stopped at a little beach so the residents could push their stuff.

--Overall all of the staff was very friendly and interactive.

--We arrived back to port on time in Miami. Getting off was somewhat organized, but at one point they just started telling everyone to get off. There were lines for customs, but once at the official....they said OK and good bye without much review.

***We would sail RC again, and did book our next trip while on this ship.

That and on US sailings most folks tend to eat earlier so the late seating is like that.

The 5:30 dining in the MDR was also half empty most nights. Our table was on the 4th deck. We had a table for 8 and many nights it was only me and my wife eating at the table.

We were on deck 4 as well, with many large tables around us, mostly with just a few people. We will consider changing our usual 8 pm seating for My Time on next curse.

Also forgot to mention in review -- that we were approached three times on first day about dining packages which we declined. The next few days we saw staff walking around with the offers but never did get approached again. Maybe I just did a good job avoiding them.

We did sign up for a wine tasting for $10 (with drink package discount) on the first day. It was worth the price and did have fun with our "wine" table mates from Canada.
