Ocean Boy Posted August 7, 2017 #101 Share Posted August 7, 2017 Seriously? Did it ever occur to you that's it's simply not financially feasible to have a specialist and the necessary equipment for every possible medical situation on board a ship, rather than an attempt to avoid a malpractice suit? How much do you think the fares would go up if every single ship had to have a neurologist, a cardiologist, a pulmonologist, an otolaryngologist, a gastroenterologist, an orthopedic surgeon, a thoracic surgeon, a general surgeon, a neurosurgeon, a radiologist, a pathologist, a podiatrist, and ophthalmologist, a pediatrician, a rheumatologist, an oncologist, an anesthesiologist, an OB/GYN, etc.??? Oh, and don't forget the cost of a CT scanner, an MRI machine, an endoscopy suite, a heart-cath lab, a full infectious disease laboratory, every type of surgical equipment known to mankind, etc. Yep, I'm sure that the ONLY reason that they put complicated medical cases in land-based hospitals is just to avoid a malpractice suit. Sheesh, the stuff people will say around here.... Thanks for saving me the time of having to respond to such a ridiculous post.

brevardcruiser Posted August 7, 2017 #105 Share Posted August 7, 2017 A couple years ago my daughter 3 at time fell down the stairs on the freedom and thought lost a tooth. Bleeding everywhere. Staff and officers rushed to her side down elevator all the way Down to medical facilities. Staff was overly concerned and very comforting for a 3 year old. No charge at all. Turns out when we got home her tooth was not lost it somehow shot back in her gums. Dentist never saw something like that ever before Sent from my iPhone using Forums
toras Posted August 8, 2017 #106 Share Posted August 8, 2017 But if you have anything serious at all, you will be unceremoniously bundled off the ship into the care of land-side hospitals at the next port of call Yes, we were "unceremoniously bundled off the ship" when dad had to go to a hospital - there wasn't a red carpet nor a band to see us off! Actually there was a port agent who acted on behalf of the cruiseline to help our stay at Monaco. Also they automatically refunded the purchased excursions for the remaining port, and returned a belt I had left behind by giving it to the friends we were travelling with.
