John Bull Posted October 13, 2017 #26 Share Posted October 13, 2017 A few words to luckynana about timed tickets for Stonehenge. You book a half-hour time slot for your arrival, and aim to arrive during that time-slot. (there's no limit on how long you want to stay there). If you take a day-excursion bus from London (offered by a number of tour operators) or a tour-transfer bus offered by https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_from_london_shared_bus.html or the Stonehenge ho-ho from Salisbury http://www.thestonehengetour.info/ or - if offered - a ship-sponsored excursion or tour-transfer, you don't need timed tickets. You buy admission with or as part of your tour ticket and that ticket gets you into Stonehenge whenever the bus arrives there. Not saying you should book by bus rather than a private transfer, just pointing out that advantage. If you travel to Stonehenge by other means, like jimbostan's private transfer, you need timed tickets to be sure that your admission isn't delayed because the site has reached maximum visitor numbers. On some days, such as summer weekends, that's more likely than others. Judging how long it takes to get there from London is pretty difficult, especially friday to sunday when traffic can get snarled-up. Jimbostan did exactly the right thing by booking a time-slot that allowed significantly more travel time than usual. If he'd worked on an overly optimistic travel time and missed his time-slot he might have been delayed until late in the day. But by working on a pessimistic travel time he arrived early, I'll hazard a guess that he was about an hour early. Had the site reached capacity he might have been delayed, but at least he knew he'd be admitted when that time-slot came around. JB :)

Nanaandpoppop Posted May 4, 2018 #28 Share Posted May 4, 2018 We just concluded a TA cruise disembarking in Southampton. We used Woodford Cruise Connections for our pickup, a trip to Stonehenge, and delivery to the flat we rented in London. Our driver John was awesome and fun, and Cheryl in the office gave us great communication. We highly recommend them!

Nanaandpoppop Posted May 11, 2018 #30 Share Posted May 11, 2018 We rented the flat through HomeAway. It was property #1656288 and the owners are Myles and Emma. It was a nice flat which was located in a great neighborhood. We loved the area as you could walk to great restaurants, bus and tube stops, museums. The flat could use a little TLC but it was great for the 2 of us. It is basement so you have to be able to do some steps.

Thanks in advance... Karen[emoji3] We are renting a flat for our upcoming stay. We used AirBnB, their site has lots of options from rooms to full houses. The flat we rented is a 4 bedroom 3 bath right by Marble Arch so very convenient. We originally had two hotel rooms reserved (we are a group of six including 2 children), but the flat will be much more comfortable and less expensive. wildcats40 Posted May 15, 2018 #32 Share Posted May 15, 2018 We will be using Woodford Cruise Connection, also, for our trip from Heathrow to our hotel in Southampton. They respond by email very quickly and we've been happy with them so far. I'll report back after our cruise. We originally scheduled a stop at Stonehenge on the way but changed our minds and will go directly to Southampton. I think we'll be too tired to appreciate it after an all night flight from the US.
