Getting a rental car in Miami

We plan on doing some traveling in Florida so we would like to get a rental car after disembarking in Miami,.Is there a rental place at or near the pier or do you have to take a cab?

I don't know of any rental car places near the pier specifically but someone local might be able to help. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale, rented a car there, and drove to Miami. Stayed there for a couple days then returned the car to Miami airport and then took a cruise shuttle to the Pier.

 

Worse case you could take the shuttle from the pier to the airport and rent a car. It's not too far.

We just rented a Alamo car from the Miami airport. There is a free shuttle from the port.

The pick-up place is a little confusing. the signs point to an area to the far right, past all of the other pick ups.

However, when we asked one of the workers, they pointed to a different area.

There were two ships in the area we were in, and the buses come from the left.

We had to wait about 15-20 minutes for the bus to pick us up. As we were the second stop, and the bus only had room for a few people.

We happened to be in the right spot and got on. There were a lot of others waiting, that seemed upset at first, but the driver told them there was another shuttle right behind us. When we pulled in at the airport, the other shuttle pulled in as we were unloading bags.

We rented from Hertz in Ft. Lauderdale and returned the car in Miami; Hertz took us over to the pier on a shuttle van. I'm pretty sure that they also pick up at the pier, but you might want to check (We dropped off at their Southeast 2nd St. location, not at the airport)....

We rent from Budget and drop our car off here. Very close to the ship and they shuttle you or in your case will get picked up by the shuttle.

Cars picked up at an airport location sometimes have extra fees and taxes, so if you can find a non-airport like the Budget location above it might be a little cheaper. Pay close attention driving in downtown Miami. Lots of one way streets and crazy drivers, it can be a little confusing. If you are there on a weekend it's isn't quite as bad.
