dreamv Posted May 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2017 We will be spending two nights in New Orleans prior to cruise, we have kids and won't have a car. We really just want to "experience" the city but probably won't do much in the way of tours or museums. Currently I'm debating between the Loews or the Royal Sonesta. The plan is to use uber from the airport and to the cruise port. Any thoughts? Thx
geeko1 Posted May 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2017 Either hotel is great and have good access to the quarter. You dont say what your interests are so We can only guess. There are walking tours for art, history, antiques, drinks and food you can google. The kids should enjoy riding the street car and the insectarium

If you want to be IN the french quarter...on Bourbon Street....but about a half mile from the cruise port, Royal Sonesta. If you want to be across the street from Harrah's, a few blocks walk to the french quarter and a few blocks from the cruise port, Loews. You can experience the city in either location, but you're right in the middle of it at Royal Sonesta. That is what I would recommend.
nolatravelgirl Posted May 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2017 The Loew's hotel has a really great restaurant. It is part of the same family of restaurants with Commander's Palace. Normally I would never recommend eating at a hotel restaurant in New Orleans, but this is one exception. The shrimp and tasso "corn dogs" are finger licking good. Don't forget the $0.25 martinis at lunch on weekdays. If you go for weekend brunch the martinis are free but you have to wear a hat (baseball hats don't count) http://www.cafeadelaide.com/
