OlsSalt Posted May 13, 2017 #26 Share Posted May 13, 2017 Memo to self: Salute to all those people we never see, down in the bowels of the ship, who have incredible technical expertise so they can run and repair any system that keeps us cruising an having a good time upstairs. Bravo gentlemen ..and now maybe a few ladies too. Our armies of the night that keep us going while we sleep.
Tampa Girl Posted May 13, 2017 #27 Share Posted May 13, 2017 We lost power one morning on the Norway. I remember the captain's announcement. He said that they had a problem and had to shut down power and would gradually restore it. Until that time we would be "adrift in the Atlantic." Well, we were, but I'm not sure he had to phrase it that way! Yes, one would think that there would be a more soothing way to describe the situation. Must have been a little unnerving. ozcruizer Posted May 14, 2017 #28 Share Posted May 14, 2017 Just to add to the stories, we were on the Volendam about four and a half years ago only a day from Singapore when the ship lost power because of propulsion issues. We did feel the heat a bit seeing we were not far from the equator but we were told what was happening. It was about an hour before we were moving again, although the ship had turned 180 degrees in the meantime.
