Bequia Posted November 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2005 Two websites that have consistantly provided me with excellent bidding guidance are Betterbidding.com http://www.betterbidding.com and Bidding for Travel dot com http://bidding for travel.com for travel.com. One way around the 72 hour rule is to register on Priceline using a different credit card and e-mail address. Multiple PL accounts give you ample bidding possibilities. ;)
caribsun Posted November 28, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted November 28, 2005 Tried bidding again on 11/27 for 3* for Airport and Downtown Miami . Started with a $70 bid and rejected went to $76 and still rejected. The town must be sold out? I'll wait a few more says and try again.
cul8er Posted November 29, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2005 I tried $80 for 3/4/06-3/5/06 (pre-cruise) and it was rejected. All of the decent (3 star) hotels are $200-$400 per night in the downtown and airport area it seems. I am looking at a condo right near the cruise port for $130, it is still cheaper than $200. CruiseNut7 Posted November 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2005 I've had no luck Priceline-ing a room in Miami for 12/3,4/05. I think downtown may be completely sold out - except for one hotel that was $377 .... no way! For a 3* I bid up to $175 and was still NOT accepted! Last December I got the Hyatt for $60. Unbelieveable! I called the Holiday Inn, Sheraton, Doubletree directly (all Miami DT) and they are sold out. Thank goodness the Radisson on Biscayne was available at $161, so had to book two of those rooms. It's tough to pay those rates when you've stayed in 3* and 4* hotels for $60-75! Oh well, less cash for the casino! Happy sailing!
Rare Mike Dante Posted November 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 30, 2005 WOW!!. Back in May I booked my 12/3 precruise stayover and had no luck downtown. I finally aded airport, and they gave me the intercontinental by the airport for $80.00. There have been a few good and a few bad posts about the hotel, but since I have no control over it, I am going into it with a pos attitude. Hopefully something opens up for you. Happy sails, Mike
caribsun Posted December 1, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted December 1, 2005 I went down to 2.5* airport for $60 and was rejected. Thanks for info Mike. I will up bid to $80 like you did. I was just hoping to get one of those great 3* $50 deals like others. :p
VentureMan_2000 Posted December 1, 2005 #8 Share Posted December 1, 2005 I booked on alpharooms.com and got a room at the Holiday Inn at the end of April for $86 which included tax. Must be something going on in the area for your date. I did see a couple in the $70 range for your date, however. Give it a try. I was a bit sceptical at first, but I booked thru them, and called up the local hotel and confirmed that they have my reservation. Good luck. :)
jcjbloca Posted December 2, 2005 #9 Share Posted December 2, 2005 VentureMan I followed your lead and tried alpharooms for Holiday Inn Downtown: 2 nights, 4/29 and 4/30/06- but the hotel is full & no rooms available, according to alpharooms. I must be too late already.
VentureMan_2000 Posted December 2, 2005 #10 Share Posted December 2, 2005 Alpha has an opening for 4/30/06 for $86.71 Maybe you could book both online at the H.I. for $110 plus tax and at Alpha. It will still save you some money. Your combined average rate would be $106.00 after taxes. That's like getting a room for $93.80 before taxes. Good luck,
caribsun Posted December 5, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted December 5, 2005 Placed bid today (Dec.05) for 3* downtown & airport for $80.00. Rejected. If I go higher to $85, plus booking fees and taxes I am looking at over $100. Should I just book a room for $125 in the airport area and call it a night.
