Mariea11 Posted May 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2017 hi! I am new here so I hope I am posting in the right place :) I will be going on an Alaskan cruise this June. I have booked a couple of excursions where you take a helicopter to a glacier. Has anyone done this? I just need some advice regarding what to wear coz I am getting conflicting advice. Will we need thick ski type jackets on these excursions? Thanks!! Marie
Debbie1029 Posted May 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2017 We did that excursion in September. I wore a fleece and vest under my rain jacket. Plenty warm enough. It was so awesome! Hope you enjoy was much as we did! Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

10-777 Posted May 14, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2017 We have and recommend a polar fleece under a good quality rain jacket with a hood. We brought waterproof runners on our trip so we used them on the glacier. Have fun!
Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted May 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2017 They will hook you up with boots that have spikes so you'll be all set with footwear. They also had us put a reflective vest over our coat so that added a layer. It was beautiful and sunny the day I went so a fleece jacket, shell, and their vest was plenty. I didn't put my hat or gloves on, but they were in my pocket. One of my most favorite excursions - enjoy!! waterbug123 Posted May 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2017 No clothing advice here, just be aware that helicopter excursions are often canceled due to foggy weather. We've had it happen on two separate occasions in Alaska.
cbelc Posted May 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2017 We're going to Alaska in July. I'm looking forward to seeing glaciers. That sounds like my wardrobe start. Sent from my iPad using Forums
