Lanyard question - S&S card horizontal or vertical

Call me a little OCD but are the S&S cards printed horizontal or vertical and do they swip them each time u buy a drink or scan? The reason I ask is that I would prefer it to hang correctly but am also wondering about the plastic pouch. Do u have to take the card in and out each time? If I have DL or $$ behind it I don't want to lose it. TIA!

S&S cards are horizontal. I do not carry my DL or money with me while on the ship as you only need your S&S card. Yes the card is swiped and you would need to remove it each time if in a plastic card holder. I don't use one of those, since all you need is your S&S card.

The hole is in the corner and it hangs vertically, kind of at an angle. The card itself is printed horizontally. I'm sorry, but I have to chuckle a little. I have OCD about a lot of things but this isn't something that has even crossed my mind.

They usually do swipe it although they could enter the folio number just by looking at it. But it's been my experience they want to swipe it as you have to give it to them anyway. I don't keep mine in a pouch because I find it too much of a hassle to remove it when I want a drink, play in the casino, or want to get in my cabin.

I don't carry my DL either but like to have cash for the casino big bill for the slot machine and cash for drink tips. Yes, I know I can charge to my S&S card. I only use cash in the casino. It helps with spending. And I know I can add gratuities to the drink slip. My preference is to provided the server with cash.

I have a lanyard (a fancy Brighton piece of jewelry like necklace) that I hang my S&S card from and it hangs vertically, leaving the 'swipe' bar easily accessible (while still around my neck). I personally do not like the plastic pocket like holders because you have to constantly take the card out of it to swipe it in casino, bars, ship stores etc....it is a pain to keep having to do that as far as I am concernced. Hope this helps and gives you some insight.

I keep mine in a lanyard I bought from the ships store. I took the plastic cover off, so I would not have to remove it. I just used the key ring on the lanyard and wound the card on that. It is used lengthy h wise when you scan your card to enter your room.

We have done both. DW likes the plastic sleeves better. Not a big deal to pull the card out and put it away, but I understand the hassle angle, as I prefer the hole punch route.

Not where I can dig up old S&S cards, but I do seem to recall that on the Vista earlier this year the S&S we picked up at our cabin already had a hole punched. Maybe someone else can confirm or tell me I'm having a senior moment.

Long Beach also has the pre-punched ones. But they'll give you unpunched one if the first doesn't ding the machine.

DDs once got a lanyard with a plastic holder at the camp. It ripped at seams. Never used one again.

You could try to do both... you could keep money and your DL in the clear pouch and then leave the S&S out of the pouch but still on the lanyard (you could use key rings to attach them or even the little lobster claw clip at the end).

We use a lanyard a lot like this. We bought them with the intention of protecting our cell phones because they came with a waterproof pouch, but we inadvertently discovered that by removing the pouch, they work much better for the S&S card. String the lanyard through the hole punched in the card and the quick-release clip makes it easy every time you need to swipe it without having to remove the whole thing from around our necks (and you tend to swipe it a lot).

Thank you for the responses! I'm only interested in carrying cash for tips and I was told DL was needed to get child out of Camp Carnival. Is that correct?

No, you just use your sign and sail at camp carnival also..your picture is attached electronically to your s and s card.

You don't need the DL for camp carnival. When they swipe your s&s card it shows your photo. Only thing you need on the ship is your s&s.

I prefer just the clip, no pouch. The clip keeps it secure when I am in the pool/whirlpool. I either unclip the card or just give the whole lanyard to the bartender. Last couple of cruises, card was already punched. In the past we always had the casino punch them.
