Pre buying WiFi question

Recommended Posts

From Carnival's FAQ...

"VPN connections are not supported - discuss your VPN limitations with your company’s IT department if you are planning to work while sailing. We are not able to change your settings onboard."

Hmm, there are Personal VPNs and there are Corporate VPNs. A Personal VPN (that uses openVPN) usually negotiates "after" the WiFi connection is made from your device and is unseen by the WiFi provider. So, it very possibly falls outside of the Carnival PPTP and IPSec limitations.

YMMV,

We're booked on the Fantasy in June and have pre bought the WiFi package. We've never bought the WiFi before.

Will we receive a password at embarkation? How does that work?

How secure is it?

It is easy to use. There is no "password" You will go to the webpage, they will ask your folio number and birthdate and you will be logged onto the internet. How secure? I can't answer but I have not heard of people complaining of problems with it.

Thanks. What is the "folio" number? Is it my booking number?

Does anyone know if its cheaper to pre-order or is it the same price as buying onboard. Thanks

i haven't seen reports of pre-purchase being cheaper than buying it when you board board but either way, you get a price break if you buy it for the whole cruise as opposed to the daily rate. Every package has a daily rate so you can buy a day or two at a time but if you paid the daily rate every day you would spend more than if you just buy the package for the whole cruise. Daily rates are pretty set but the cruise rate and it's discount depends on length of cruise.
