Parking in Galveston

Sorry if this is asked often...I did a quick search and didn't see anything.

We will be driving to Galveston to cruise aboard the Valor on June 17. Is there a certain parking area that is better than others, and why? Also, is it better to attempt to drop off bags and then park, or should we park and bring bags on the shuttle. Should we pre-book (reserve) our parking?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I like Galveston Park N Cruise. It's located directly across the street from the terminal entrance. No need to spend time driving through to drop off luggage. Park, walk one block with your luggage, enter terminal.

You can pre-book on their website. If you're so inclined porters will take your luggage back to your car.

Saved the best for the last-they offer covered, indoor parking. I don't leave my car uncovered in the Texas summer sun at home. I'm sure not going to leave it for a week in that same sun plus blowing sand carried by the lovely gulf breeze.

However if you're spending the previous evening in a hotel, I've read that some of them offer free parking during your cruise and shuttle service to the terminal.

I know that the Tremont family of hotels offers cruise parking, but that is all the way at the Galvez, on the other side of the island. They have a shuttle that will take you to the terminal. If I recall, it was cheaper than other parking options since you are already staying with them.

We always park in the port's lot. They are not covered, but are affordable. I don't mind leaving the car in the sun. It sits in the middle of a black parking lot for eight hours everyday anyways.

If you pre-purchase online, there is a discount. Just google port of Galveston parking.

My husband had back surgery about a month ago (laminectomy). Right now he can walk short distances ok without much pain and walking is good for him (according to his doctor.) I'm hoping by our August cruise he can walk even further. Is the terminal entrance a block away from the parking lot entrance? Or is it a block from where you leave your car to where you hand off your luggage? He really wants covered parking that's really close but I'm worried about him walking a long ways and being in pain. I could offer to drop him off but he probably wouldn't let me. He's very proud and wouldn't like the idea of me walking alone. Also, are there any discounts for them that you know about?
