Dance Lessons

I have a friend trying to plan her first cruise. She wants to be able to take dance lessons on the cruise and then dress up for formal night and go dancing. Does Norwegian have these types of dance lessons on their cruises?

Not really. Usually on the larger ships the dance troupe on board will do some salsa or similiar as a group activity, but it doesn't sounds that what your friend has in mind.

 

There isn't a formal night as such either - just a dress up or not day and it's generally much more casual than other cruise lines.

Thank you for answering. I know formal night isn't as formal as it used to be on some ships and I'm perfectly fine with that. But I think she just really has a desire to do this and I'm trying to help her figure out where it may be possible.

The Cunard ships have dance lessons and formal nights with dancing with a live band. They even have dance hosts for women who don't have a dance partner.

On the Breakaway, a dancer from the show, Burn the Floor will have 30 minute dance lessons in the atrium ranging from Salsa, to Rumba and other styles? You never get to perform it though. There was one day when they did have a dance rehearsal to learn the Thriller Dance and you could perform that at the 80s party they had later on that night.

We took two lessons on our NCL Cruise. The dancers from the review taught us. We had so much fun. It was our favorite shipboard activity.

I have noticed that on NCL, most of the 'dance lessons' are just for line dances...

NCL does not have 'dance hosts' like some of the upscale cruise lines have...

p&o, Cunard and Fred Olsen all very good for dance lessons and dance nights, also much more of dressing up nights. On a 14 night cruise we had five formal nights.

Just saying,and I know NCL equals low class for some, we had couples swing class.

We did hula classes on the POA, and salsa classes on some other ship (I think the Dawn up to Canada). I've seen them on offer, but they're not a huge focus.

DS and DH want to wear suits for pictures on dress up night since its been 15 years since we have done so. Will they be out of lace?

No. Most men wear suits for pictures with the captain or when the photo studios are set up.
