Skypeing on board

We will be cruising on the Eclipse Jan 21, 2018. Question: One of our perks is unlimited wifi access. We would like

to know, with this, will we be able to skype from our state room? And, if so will it work well? THANKS!

Like land-based WiFi, time delay can also be experienced on Skype using ship's WiFi. But it is tolerable.

Signal strength varies through out the ship. So it depends on where your cabin is in relation to the repeater.

We recently returned from travel on Solstice, and had the unlimited internet package. We were able to use Skype via the ship WIFI without a problem -- even in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Of course, Skype is always a bit of a challenge regarding quality anywhere, but no complaints on the connection and the sound quality on board using WIFI.

 

I must say, Celebrity's new enhanced (speeded up) internet onboard is a vast improvement over previous years. Still, on heavy usage days and times, there can be slow connections. The packages ARE pricey, though....Look for specials!

The new internet speed on Silhouette at the Caribbean was extremely good. Skype was just like at any hotel or home. I also see people skype with their kids at home at MDR.

We have just got off Constellation and found the wi-fi to be barely good enough to check email, certainly not good enough for Skype. Not sure what happened to Xcelerate but this was reminiscent of cruise ship internet from a decade ago!

We use Google Hangouts rather than Skype but have had decent success with it. Sometimes the reception is choppy, and occasionally non-existent but since Celebrity updated their internet it is much better than it used to be.

Certainly worth the on-board price of $249 for a 7-day cruise.
