Stargazing?

We are very excited for our first Alaska cruise at the end of July! My question is regarding stargazing. Will it be dark enough (I mean with regard to the ship's lights) to see the stars well? Or do the ship's lights kind of drown out the stars?

It doesn't get dark enough regardless of the ship's lights to see stars. Land of the midnight sun!

Sun rise at that time of year is around 0400 & sun set around 21:00 - 21:40, give or take a bit. Some where in between it might get dark enough if you're willing to get up that early. There are places on the ship that you can see the stars if they're out.

And ships lights in general drown out the starlight. You typically do not see more that you would on the suburbs.

Can you see the stars from land if your in Aleaska?

I barely gets dark enough. It didn't even look like night until after 12:30 am and by 3 am the sun was coming up. Even when it was dark, it was more like twilight than night time.
