sdf89 Posted June 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2017 Want to do on own a medium SCENIC hike at Mendenhall glacier. I see posts that say the east side trails are more rigorous, but are more like hiking through any forest. I hear there is a scenic hike that can be crowded and is paved, easy (and short). Any suggestions of a hike that is 2-4 hours long, ok to do on own, and lots of views of things you can't see in Arkansas (!!!)
GradUT Posted June 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2017 There are 5 hikes at Mendenhall. The two longest ones are Nugget Falls (2 miles RT/Moderare) and East Glacier (3.5 miles loop/Challenging). I can't seem to add the link from my phone, but if you Google "Mendenhall Glacier Hikes", you'll find a map and description of all 5 hikes available there. mapleleaves Posted June 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2017 If you click on the map in the lower right corner, it will take to the Mendenhall VIsitor guide with details about eack of the hikes. The easy but busy trail is the one going to Nuggett Falls. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongass/about-forest/offices/?cid=stelprdb5400800
sdf89 Posted June 11, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted June 11, 2017 Thank you. I assume the east glacier is the one that is mainly in woods without much view? The nugget I had heard was scenic, but I had thought was only hour round trip. Good to hear is longer.
