Sand and Seas Posted June 21, 2017 #26 Share Posted June 21, 2017 There is no commitment to play a certain amount of money on a CAS comped cruise. This works out great for those who are 'Casino Invited Guests' using a cruise voucher from a land-based casino. However, don't expect CAS to offer you another comped cruise if you didn't play much on board. I know people that have gone on several cruises using vouchers from CET (Caesars) and have not played on board. This will not stop CET from giving those certificates to whoever meets their criteria. (Usually for regular CET players who they are enticing to come play in order to pick up the voucher.) I used to cruise on the CET vouchers only. Traveling to Las Vegas and playing/staying in their casino while picking up my cruise certificate. Then I learned more about CAS. Now I have diverted some of my Las Vegas gambling budget directly to the ship. What I might have gambled in a week-end at Las Vegas I am now gambling during a 7 night cruise. I still go to Vegas and get free suites and food comped there, but I also am cruising 4 times a year in comped OceanViews or Balconies with NCL. (My cost is $20 per night per person Admin Fee plus port charges....whether I am in an Inside or Haven.....did the Haven once:cool:) On land or at sea, I play to earn a good number of points to get my 'free' rooms or cabins. I know others that go to Vegas and pay $300+ per night for a room not as nice as my suites. They also pay regular price for cruises. When I look at $$ spent and the fun we have had, we like what we do and what we get for it. NCL now gives me Platinum Plus benefits, CAS gives me Sapphire status benefits, and CET (on land) gives me SevenStar benefits. It's all fun, and we are enjoying the retirement we have earned. Sand and Seas Posted June 21, 2017 #27 Share Posted June 21, 2017 People cruising with Casino at Sea lose a lot more in the casino each cruise than two or three cruises actually cost. I keep track of my gambling $$ won or lost per cruise or Las Vegas trip. I can honestly tell you that of the last dozen CAS cruises I have only twice lost a little more than the cruise would have cost me out of pocket. Twice we came home money ahead, and the other 8 cruises would equal a gambling loss that you would find to be a bargain cruise for the balcony I got! (And I do watch the prices that the cruises/cabins we are getting are costing on the NCL website.) We are cruising 4 times per year on CAS since we retired and I'm tracking the money pretty close. We are still eligible for any promo that is offered to the general public. For instance, just booked a another cruise with CAS last week that gives me two promos plus $100 Balcony Bonus OBC and $100 Latitudes OBC. On another of my future cruises we got the free port charges and two promos. On each of these cruises CAS will give me another $200 OBC due to my Sapphire status (number of points earned per year.) Very pleased that we are easily able to afford this many cruises each year in retirement. We are having lots of fun. Thank you CAS:cool:
garycarla Posted June 21, 2017 #28 Share Posted June 21, 2017 As you can see in our signature.. we have done LOTS of NCL cruises. Most were some sort of CAS deal. In the end, we have payed for our cruises, but gotten lots of fun and booze out of the deal. I am not foolish enough to say we are way ahead of the game. Nor are we what somebody earlier said that you have to pay 2-3 times what the cruise would have cost.
Rare BirdTravels Posted June 21, 2017 #29 Share Posted June 21, 2017 People cruising with Casino at Sea lose a lot more in the casino each cruise than two or three cruises actually cost. On an average cruise, 10%-25% of the adult guests onboard are casino guests. Either with comped rooms or discounted rooms. They can be direct books with Casinos at Sea or using land-based casino free cruise certificates.

jinteso Posted June 21, 2017 #31 Share Posted June 21, 2017 (edited) For instance, we were comped an OceanView and that category was almost sold out a couple of months after I booked but there were lots of balconies left. Thanks everyone for the advice. I appreciate it. How do find out how many cabins are left? I noticed that the NCL website will only list 15 or however many are left, whichever is fewer. Rare BirdTravels Posted June 21, 2017 #32 Share Posted June 21, 2017 73.6% Of All Statistics Are Made Up But you know we like our metrics. And can give you the exact number of casino guests on every one of our cruises. On our breakaway cruise in May, it was 12.2% of all guests. On our Jewel cruise in April it was 11.1%. Sand and Seas Posted June 21, 2017 #34 Share Posted June 21, 2017 Thanks everyone for the advice. I appreciate it. How do find out how many cabins are left? I noticed that the NCL website will only list 15 or however many are left, whichever is fewer. In my example, I had pulled up OVs and there were less than 15 in category OA and category OB said 'guarantee' with no cabin numbers coming up. Then I checked categories BD, BC, and BA. Fifteen cabins came up in each so I knew they had plenty. One key thing to watch is the costs of each of those categories. They were dropping the prices of the balconies. This was on the Escape. The large ships seem to have the most balconies that go 'on sale' as there are so many of them in proportion to other categories.
cantthinkofanythingfun Posted June 21, 2017 #35 Share Posted June 21, 2017 The comps aren't based on amounts won or lost. They are based on the amount played and over what time frame it was played. As someone that used to have a bit of a gambling problem, I can tell you that hard core gamblers always talk about their big wins and rarely mention their big losses. We like to use free rooms and cruises to justify our losses. A gambler's favorite line is, "I'm about even". Never gamble more than you can afford to lose because the odds are pretty clear that you will lose. Don't get caught up in playing for comps. Casinos love when you do. That's why they offer them. Land based casinos generally have better odds on slot machines and more favorable rules on table games. You can always drive to another casino. You can't swim to another ship, so they know they have you for that week. It can be fun to spend a couple hours in a casino on a cruise, but I never understood spending the whole cruise in one when there is so much more to do. Some people spend the entire cruise at a bar. My favorite bar is in the casino... LOL!

Pappion Posted June 23, 2017 #38 Share Posted June 23, 2017 I booked my NCL cruise through CAS, I didn't have a comped cruise, just used them to get my player card discount. My question is, will I be able to board with the CAS people even though I didn't have a offer of the "free cruise" Thankyou Yes. As long as you booked through them you can use the CAS line.
