Rare BillOh Posted June 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Over the years there have been some controversial itinerary changes. Recently it seems Royal didn't do a good job of notifying Adventure cruisers of the St Kitts/Martinique change. Of course storm related ones are easy to understand, but I just got this email from Royal about my Majesty cruise. This change will not have any negative effect on me at all as near as I can tell, but being a curious person I have to wonder, "Why?" Do they pay for the berth by the hour in Nassau? We won't need sailing time from Coco Cay to Nassau, or from Nassau back to Port Canaveral. This and not knowing who our cruise director will be is ruining this cruise! ;) (Kidding obviously) But its slow at work today and I'm wondering, Why? pjgavaghan Posted June 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Two reasons: Cruise line do pay by the hour docked Three hours at sea means the stores and CASINO will be open Sent from my iPad using Forums
bUU Posted June 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Could not such changes be driven by the port master? Perhaps the ship is the only one that will be in Port for those hours and the portmaster decided instead to open the port late and close the port early, perhaps due to the fact that the port fees of one ship do not cover the costs of keeping the port open? But as the other poster mentioned, perhaps this has to do with keeping the port open. Majesty by her self doesn't bring the passengers that a 4 or ship day does. (Come to think of it, time to see who is in port with us!) <Looks like us and Enchantment. I've never seen her in person.

Looking at the schedule change, the amount of dinners changed should be minimal. So the the change in hours in port (less expense for the cruise line). And more hours for the shops and casino to be open (more income for the cruise line Seems like a no brained for the cruise line Sent from my iPad using Forums
bUU Posted June 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Confirmed: Majesty of the Seas is the only ship in Nassau that day. The same change was made for the port day at Nassau two week prior; again, Majesty of the Seas is the only ship in port that day. Two weeks prior to that, Majesty of the Seas is one of five ships in port, but was the only ship to originally plan to leave that late. However, there is another ship staying overnight. So now I'm not sure what to think might be driving this. Edited June 27, 2017 by bUU

You may be right, I'll probably never know the complete reason. Being I'm having a slow day, maybe I'll see if Enchantment is changing too. Cruisett seems to be wrong, according to Enchantment's roll call they are in Nassau on Tuesday while we are there on a Wednesday. Perhaps if our tiny ship is the only one there closing the port early could be a reason. Edited June 27, 2017 by BillOh
Biker19 Posted June 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Perhaps if our tiny ship is the only one there closing the port early and RCI gets a discount to do that.
