Carrier bags

We are visiting USA and Canada in September and October. Will we need to pay for carrier bags in the shops? If so I will bring my folding bags.

It might depend on which states/cities you are visiting.

There are no cities in the US that do not provide plastic bags, but many charge a tax of $0.05-0.10 per bag, and finding somewhere to drop them off for recycling may be difficult. Some retailers, particularly grocery stores, provide a discount for bringing your own reusable bags.

 

Providing it's not inconvenient, I would bring reusable bags with me.

I don't believe NYC charges. Don't know about the cities mentioned.
