Tips for Conquest?

Any side notes/tips for the Conquest? Like free popcorn in the bar or discount spa treatments at certain times? Any recommendations for some event to defiantly check out like a certain lecture? Not the usual things like bingo and trivia. On another ship there was a speaker about the history of the island we were going to. It was really interesting. Thanks!

They should have free popcorn on the Lido Deck during movie screenings. I think they have movies every night.

Other tips:

  • Check out the Ol' Fashioned Barbecue location, Deck 10 (Panorama) above the Lido Deck buffet. It's free/included and often not discovered until Day 2 or 3. It's pretty good, especially for being included in the fare.
  • You can also check out the "secret decks," forward. These are publically accessible decks located beneath the bridge on the front of the ship, but they're not widely known. One of the few places on a Conquest-class ship where you can get a good view forward. Note that it can get quite windy up there, especially when the ship is cruising fast, and sometimes the access doors will be locked for safety.
  • Unless this has changed since last October, the Pizza Pirate kiosk (Deck 9, portside aft) will offer an expanded menu from 11pm 'til 1am that includes lasagna and another rotating item each night: meatball sub, chicken parmigiana, and at least one other item. The lasagna is quite good. This is labeled as "Pizza Pirate Plus" on their menu and it's also not well-known.

Have fun on your cruise.....we liked the Conquest so much that we rebooked it again the following year...and the second time was even better than the first!

A hidden gem of quiet the last time I was on board was the Alfred Bar. Very rarely was anything organized going on in there and most people don't seem to realize its there because of its odd location.During the day. I don't recall ever being in there at night. Its has some beautiful architecture to it though the ceiling is a bit low. Between two elevator banks. Its a great place to go with your food from the Buffet is the seating is too crowded for you at lunch time as well.

If you are in a hurry to get from the theater or casino to the comedy club, use the 4th deck walk through to bypass all the photographers. Enter by using the stairs at the mid ship elevators just outside the casino, turn right and go to the end of the passageway which opens to a lounge. Up one flight of stairs and your at the aft elevators and the alchemy bar just outside the comedy club.

You can do this in reverse if you have aft MDR dining and want to get forward to the casino, shops, or theater.

We will be on the Conquest next month! We can't wait. Where are these secret decks, and how do you get to them?

Go to the forward end of the stateroom corridors on Deck 6 or Deck 7 -- and apparently Deck 10 -- and you'll see doorways leading outside. You're there. :)

Looking at the deck plans it looks like Deck 10 ("Panorama!") also has a secret deck in front, and I'm kicking myself for not realizing this before.....especially when we had a Deck 9 interior on Conquest two Octobers ago. :o

I sure hope they have solved the embarkation & debarkation problems they had in December. We've heard they regularly have a hard time clearing the ship, which delays boarding. Debarkation was completely out of control, with people cutting in line and gangways not working.

In my experience, it seems to be as much a problem with Port Everglades Customs as with the ship. In 2015 we had a little delay disembarking from Conquest, but then last year an even bigger problem getting off RCI Oasis. I've also read the same complaints from quite a few others on the CC board, not ship-specific at all, definitely clearing Customs. Last year we got off the ship pretty quick, but then stood around in a giant mob for almost an hour -- waiting for Customs.

Interesting. All three of my Carnival Cruises has been a nightmare at embarkation/debarkation. But they've all been in and out of Miami, not Port Everglades. Im sailing on the Conquest 2 weeks from today and hoping it's not miserable to get on and off the ship!

Tip of the month right above. Here's what we do. We cruise with another couple, and we all like the two seater cushion loungers in the main show lounge. After dinner the guys go down one set of stairs to deck two and walk the length of the ship to the very front staircase, up to deck four and enter the lounge to stake our claim. The ladies go powder their noses, shop, change back to shorts, etc and then join us. We can then do the same.

Happy Wife, Happy Life. 34 years...

Sxhexule the Behind the Scenes tour as soon as you board the ship. It was a lot of fun.

Yep. Slots for the Behind the Fun tour fill up quickly, so if you have any interest in the inner workings of a cruise ship, go to Shore Excursions as soon as you board and reserve a spot. It will be $95 but it lasts for about 3.5 hours (on the morning of your last sea-day) and you get to see a lot, including the bridge and Engineering Control.

Here's the FAQ about the tour from Carnival's site:

Carnival’s ‘Behind the Fun’ Tour

For those who want to get an insider’s look at the inner-workings of a Carnival ‘Fun Ship’, Carnival has created ‘Behind the Fun’, a guided tour that provides guests with a unique insight into the company’s shipboard operations.

‘Behind the Fun’ is offered fleet wide. The informative tour offers participants a behind-the-scenes look at a wide range of shipboard venues that are normally off limits to guests. During the tour, key shipboard personnel, including the captain, chief engineer, chef de cuisine and other department heads, share their vast knowledge in their particular area of expertise.

‘Behind the Fun’ begins with a stop backstage in the main show lounge where participants can see exactly what goes into creating Carnival’s award-winning revues. The tour then moves on to normally restricted areas such as the laundry room, crew galley and dining room, crew gym and crew training center.

Next it’s on to the expansive main galley where talented culinary artists prepare upwards of 12,000 meals and snacks a day for Carnival’s guests. The tour also includes a visit to the ship’s bridge and engine control room and informative Q&A sessions with the captain and chief engineer, respectively.

In addition to a comprehensive overview of Carnival’s shipboard operations, ‘Behind the Fun’ participants receive a number of commemorative gifts, including a custom-made ‘Behind the Fun’ baseball cap and lanyard and even complimentary photos with the captain on the bridge.

General Information

  • ‘Behind the Fun’ can only be purchased on board through the Shore Excursion Desk.
  • Depending on the duration of the cruise, the cost is $55 USD to $95 USD per person and is approximately 2 hours to 3-1/2 hours long.
  • Capacity is limited to 16 guests per tour.
  • Tours are conducted on the last sea day of each cruise.
  • Guests must be 8 years of age or older to participate; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Guests are not permitted to have cameras, cell phones or video recording equipment on the tour.

If you're looking for a quiet place to lounge around outside, go up to deck 10. This is where the Serenity area is on other ships, but for now Conquest doesn't have a Serenity area (she will be getting one in October). There is some comfortable furniture underneath the overhang for shade and some lounge chairs in the sun in that area. Aside from a few people walking through, it's never too crowded or noisy up there. I spent a lot of time up there on my cruise in April and was always able to find a place to sit, which isn't always possible in a Serenity area.
