chloemonkey Posted July 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2017 We have two Garden Villas booked for 13 family members and are SO confused about UDP and UBP's! So here's the scenario and help me decide what else I should purchase...if anything. 11 adults and two young children. We have UDP and UBP for the first two in each Garden Villa. I am guessing that we have to buy 7 UBP (adult) and would we also have to buy the soda type package for the 3-4 year olds? As stated, the 11 adults are all Platinum Plus....so we should get some dinner certificates for Cagneys, La Cucina, Le Bistro and MOderno.....BUT I believe it is now "two dinners per stateroom" so how would this work in the Garden Villas" As if we only got TWO dinners for two for each Garden Villa, that would not seem to be fair. We also have 4 total guest that already have the UDP.....so this too would be for the remaining 7 adults. The little ones will probably exist on Mac N Cheese all week! Hope this makes sense? Any of you math experts or those that have minds that still work better than mine....please chime in! For the record, we DO eat most dinners in Specialty restaurants.....only once in the buffet or main dining room.....as this ship does NOT have a Haven restaurant....so we would be eating 5 dinners prob in Specialty Restaurants for this cruise.... Thanks!

Thanks! Unfortunately, the garden villas are considered like any other cabin for the included perks for platinum members. You will only get the platinum perks per cabin, so,since you have 2 villas, 2 times the number of platinum perks that are per cabin. I think this stinks personally, as each garden villa is like 3 separate suites with an additional area to share. I don't think you'll need the soda or UBP package unless you plan on drinking a lot out of the villas, as you get 6 bottles of alcohol and unlimited soda, water, etc. for each villa. You also get one free meal per garden villa at Cagneys in addition to the other free meals included in the UDP. The concierge escorts you to that meal. For us, when we stayed in the villas,we spent almost all of our time in them. They are self containing, no need to leave unless you really want to. For that reason, I think you are probably fine not adding the beverage packages, and unless you are foodies, you don't need the dining packages either. These are just my opinions. If you think you will be drinking a lot out of the room and eating in a specialty restaurant every night of the cruise, maybe you should buy the packages. However, if you think you'll be out and about most of the time, why book the garden villas?

We book the Garden Villas due to the fact that the service is great and we like the family to be together...sadly on this ship, the two villas do NOT open up to become one....but it still makes for a much more family oriented trip. And as I stated, we DO eat most meals in the Specialty restaurants....so I just wanted help with the logistics and whether or not I should add for the remaining 7 adults in our group. I agree that the soda package for the kids would be a waste...but thought that maybe you were obligated to buy for ALL members of each cabin? Sorry if I did not phrase it correctly...but this was my concern. I DO understand that we get free sodas, water, juices and liquor bottles in each villa..... It does suck that the Garden Villas are treated as "one" cabin! As it should be treated as three separate ones when handing out the Platinum free dinner certificates.... I am sure that we will be fine! I have sort of tried to figure it out on my own and figure that even if I added both UDP and UBP for the rest of the group that it still comes in under $1K......and as they say....."you can't take it with you!" For the record, we have only had breakfast and dinner 3-4 times in the villas when we have had both of them....as we prefer to be out and about on the ship people watching, etc......so to each his own....but thank you for your input! asubaru Posted July 17, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Do you mean under 1k/person? It is $652.54/person for the drinks and $81.42 for the 3-meal dining pkg .....That would be $733.96 per person for both. 5k+ for the 7. (I'm guessing it's a 7 day cruise)I would never buy the drink package for that amount due to surcharges they have put on some so-called premium brand alcohol/drinks, using a lot of pre-made mixes, and the bastardization of their wine lists. You're going to get 12 bottles of liquor/wine (usually can switch around to get a decent selection). If there are a lot of wine/champagne drinkers, you could carry on some bottles and pay corkage fee. Their storage system, in the restaurants, is remarkable, IME. I would consider purchasing the 3-meal dining pkg for the 7. I would talk to the concierge to negotiate getting Plat. Dining certificates for all Plat. members. thesh0rty Posted July 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2017 From NCL FAQ... I am traveling with other Platinum, Platinum Plus or Ambassador guests in the same stateroom? Do we each get a voucher? No. If there are 2 Platinum, Platinum Plus or Ambassador members in one stateroom, only one Welcome Back Card will be delivered. This gives the correct number of Dinner for Two vouchers the guests are entitled to. For 3rd and 4th Platinum, Platinum Plus or Ambassador members in the same stateroom, an additional Welcome Back Card will be delivered. If there is only a 3rd Platinum, Platinum Plus or Ambassador member in the same stateroom, an additional Welcome Back Card will be delivered but this guest will be treated as a solo traveler who get one dinner only. The benefit is only if there are 2 guests dining on the same visit.
nadeki Posted July 17, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 17, 2017 With the Platinum dinner voucher and the UDP credit and the restaurants now being a la carte it has gotten confusing. Sometimes there were members of our party that only wanted a main course and they had the credit etc.....If it is not already included I would just pay for the meals as you go. Trying to understand the logistics now really takes some of the fun out of vacation!
