Fabeck01 Posted July 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Have gone on Norwegian cruise before. Wifi was extremely expensive. So did not purchase. While on cruise other people said there was an app for your iPhone that you could purchase that worked onboard the ship to get Wifi. It was a foreign app, like Norwegian or something. Anyone know what app that might be.
Clarea Posted July 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2017 I've seen apps that purport to give texting capability between users of these apps on the same cruise without having to purchase an internet package. However, I've seen nothing that will give internet access without having an internet package.
chengkp75 Posted July 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Not sure if you are talking about wifi, or internet access. NCL has the iconcierge app for $7 per device (last price I've seen) that allows devices to text each other on ship, and access the ship's wifi for meal reservations, etc. Now, from a wifi network to get internet access, there are no "apps" that do this, as you must access the ship's ISP and use the satellite service to access the internet. SantaFeFan Posted July 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Princess has a free app that lets you send texts to anyone else who has registered and set their device up on that particular cruise. It also gives access to your itinerary, on-board reservations, and account information, including current balance information, as well as a daily calendar of events. If an internet package was purchased, you can also access the internet through your registered device. I believe it is only useful on the particular cruise you registered it for. You would have to register it again on a different ship. The downside is that there is no notification when a new text is received - no sound, no vibration, nothing. Makes the texting feature less than ideal to use.
